Waiting to enter recording relations and ISRCs
https://musicbrainz.org/edit/141365285

Would appreciate some more input here - another label/company as artist situation. I think there is previous consensus, but not that many editors ever engaged/put their views forth and I don’t want to forge ahead as some kind of solo dictator:

Whether to credit MSR/Monster Siren Records (an entity by the same company as in this case)

I’d appreciate some more opinions about whether the soundtrack subtitle guidelines apply here or not:

Thanks!

This seems wrong to me.

Spotify is listing the Group and all of the Group members in the credits. The CD just lists the name of the Group.

Isn’t this just Spotify manipulating their credits due to not having Performer relationships? Shouldn’t the recordings be left just credited to the Group?

I asked the question here, but really it applies to all of these releases and open edits

Edit #141625754 - MusicBrainz Forgot to mark this one as a votable edit, instead of an auto-approved one - would like some feedback here as I’m not 100% familiar with tagging bootlegs in Musicbrainz. Edit Note should have sufficient infos.

This is common unfortunately on digital media. Especially with collaborations (supergroups), etc. where they want to market them with more known names.

This edit is a merge of an incomplete attempt to add an 80-disc box set with a completed set, entered by the same editor, who appears to have been a beginner at the time.

I would appreciate some eyes on it to see if my reasoning for the merge is sound.

Yeah, I realise it is common. But it ain’t good. It is Spotify making up for a failing in their system. I realise they add as many Performer names as possible into their Artist field to help their search. They only have one Artist field to work with. MusicBrainz has Performer relationships we can use instead.

I am attempting to fix an error in release

https://musicbrainz.org/release/b9e4081e-7872-4586-b33f-29e99fe65857

which incorrectly links a track to a completely different recording of the same work. (Brass band+male voice choir vs orchestra and national youth choir” - pretty obvious difference)

I would appreciate votes on

https://musicbrainz.org/edit/141708577

so I can fix up the recording relations.

Really sorry for chiming in so late.
I thought necroposting in applied edits would be inappropriate, so I’ve added new edits that revert the changes removing the record label/publisher/company as artist in the release, with my arguments presented in the edit notes:

https://musicbrainz.org/edit/141879489

https://musicbrainz.org/edit/141879488

Would appreciate more discussion/votes on these.

Got just a few correction edits:

I guess there is no chance of getting opinions on my interpretation of an instrument credit unless I put it here: Edit #142069602 - MusicBrainz

Need help removing a mess, got a no vote from the editor who added it (who had been adding outright fraudulent stuff which has been dealt with already). Most of the event is cleared out already, just need these to pass as well.

open edits (fixed)

I don’t think your link has all the filters you want.

Hi, I’d like to ask for votes to help clean up this release: Edit #142616588 - MusicBrainz

This is the first contribution of that editor, and while it’s a valuable addition it needs some fixes (the track listing was initially copied from a wrong release, and it needs a separate set of recordings). If it gets some votes we’ll fix it sooner.

I’d like to add the Disc ID for Release “Mix It Up” by Jump5 - MusicBrainz , but I can’t until Edit #142785768 - MusicBrainz gets approved (7 days from now). I’d like to add the Disc ID while I have the CD out. I just purchased this CD off of Discogs and the artist included a Hidden Track after 11 tracks of silence. (I haven’t used this thread before, so if this is the incorrect way to do it, lmk)

Got a few changes to run through as well as merges:

Edit #142760353 - MusicBrainz | Edit #142760354 - MusicBrainz

Can some Jazz editors help spot the errors that this new editor is making:

They added a box: https://musicbrainz.org/release/13408a64-ea89-4969-8869-5b584c249386 and invented so many new artists, “x with y and his orchestra” instead of adding them as two artists. And then linked to heaps of current recordings and renamed them. I’ve tried to fix some of the bogus artists, but not a jazz person so can’t check all the damage. It is classic noobie confusions, but needs a Jazz eye to help untangle correctly. Noobies who take on box sets as first edits are either brave or mad

I don’t think the performance of this editor was that bad. I only voted No on half of their edits.
Their major mistake was to change the recordings to match the tracks on this various artists compilation, a common mistake for beginners (I remember, I did that once too).

Most of the artists were not created, only picked from existing artists and in many cases it’s a difficult decision. Furthermore, many of these recordings should be merged anyway. Their edits to change capitalization are mostly correct (except “From” to “from”).

I don’t think, there was much damage done.
