GameChops (label) artist page

There is an artist page that’s been around in the database for a little while now for the label GameChops (artist page) (label page). They’re pretty clearly just that, as made apparent by their homepage.

I first asked in Discord and got advice that yes, GameChops shouldn’t really exist as an artist. Though, I’ve also gotten advice to make a forum post just to make sure it’s 100% greenlit, so I’m doing that here.

One reason I have hesitation to just go for it outright is there are a few examples where “GameChops” is credited alongside the artist in the cover: Super Lofi World 2 by Helynt, Black Materia: The Remake by Mega Ran and Black Materia: The Instrumentals by Mega Ran.

I’ve created 3 edits for Black Materia: The Remake to start off with. If it passes, I’ll go ahead and commit to making other edits.

Big yes from me. But I’m also the one who gave you the advice in Discord, that you mention, so I’m cheating a little bit :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Similar edit here re. 塞壬唱片-MSR / Monster Siren Records (though there was only one vote)
And a similar thread from 2021 here: Record label as artist

There’s a similar game related label-artists like Materia Collective. See also ‘label as artist’ tag). I don’t really see the point of having them as artist entities either.

The artist should get removed from all the credits, however I don’t think it should be deleted. It can be used as an honeypot for editors that don’t know about it, allowing easier edits.
You should also put a clear disambiguation so that it’s clear to not add more of those. Ex: CHOMPO - MusicBrainz

I personally don’t agree with this change, since it is used as part of the artist credit on all the streaming services (looked up Bonetrousle as an example here, but I also looked up the two releases linked above). I think this is one of the few cases I would usually add a label as an artist

I can highly agree with that, and it it did cross my mind. Those do save a lot of mismatching when it comes to a label LLC versus actual imprint

Streaming services don’t have rules about what you can put into the artist field, MB does.

It’s become commonplace for videogame labels/developers to put themselves into the artist field in Spotify, but that seems like a workaround of not being able to group/browse in any other way in Spotify, rather than any kind of real ‘artist’ intent.
