What is the exact difference between 'is based on' and 'parody version of' relationships?

OK, because I add many thematic song covers based on other songs, I finally recognized some problem. Are next cases classified as parody version of original song or songs that are based on same song?

On one hand people often call them ‘parodies’, both authors and listeners do that and it is clear why. But on other hand, all these songs are really separate, with different lyrics and their theme. So what is more correct in context of MB DB and MB style guidelines?

The parody description does say “This attribute indicates a version with satirical, ironic, or otherwise humorous intent. Parodies in most cases have altered lyrics.” As such different lyrics are expected - there might be a case where the bits left are so few that it makes sense to just have a “based on” new work, but in most cases (song recognizably the same but with different, sillier lyrics) just “parody version” is fine.
