Requests for Votes Thread

Hello, I’d really appreciate some votes on this change: Edit #122818062 - MusicBrainz
Adding the full title to the album, so I can put it on my phone and listen to it without triggering my OCD…

Requesting votes on the remove relationship edits for this, not the recording merge, so that the relationships I accidentally added get removed before the merge, to avoid a failed dependency.

I’m pretty sure I’m right to merge these RGs, but I’d like some extra eyes, if you don’t mind:

This should not go through

Can someone find me the bit in the guidelines about “cover” versions? A solo artist performing tracks he wrote for his previous band is not doing “covers”, he is performing his own work.

Roger Waters wrote lots of tracks when in Pink Floyd. He now plays them on his solo tours. In MB terms these are not “covers” as he actually wrote them. And legally owns them. But I can’t find a section of the guidelines to point at and don’t want to end-up in a edit warm with an editor. Edit #122879854 - MusicBrainz

This has always been a heated topic and not just here. My personal view is, “if I wrote it its not a cover”, anything less is a slap in the face to the creator. My rebellious side suggests just adding a disambiguation of “author not a cover”.

Some thoughts from others:

The joke is with this one is Roger has fought some big legal cases about them being HIS songs.

Mysterious track that doesn’t exist anywhere.

Carrying out a merge for a duplicate entry:

Hi!

I created this release on MB ahead of getting it in my hands. Now that I want to archive it, I realize I havent added all the tracks on the last bonus medium/disc. Now the ripper TOC cant match for submitting the discid. Can someone help me out so I can submit the discid and tag it for my archiving? Ive been able to succesfully submit discids for 1-4/5, this is the edit for 5/5:

#123159490

Regarding track lengths, I will set these with the disc TOC once the track numbers match and allow me to submit it

Proof of correct tracklist (XLD Ripper):

I’ve come across some edits marking some releases as “withdrawn.” But they still seem to be playable on Spotify, which makes me think that “withdrawn” is not the right choice. The editor is telling me I don’t know how Spotify works (entirely possible), but I’d like to get some more eyes on these. I don’t see anything telling me these releases were withdrawn.

You might be interested in this recent thread - How to treat Spotify links to withdrawn releases?
TL;DR: Spotify has a “special” way to deal with withdrawn/unavailable releases. If the release uses a recording that is available in another release, the “withdrawn” release page will still be able to play those recordings. It’s somewhat similar to the concept of recordings in MB.
Say for example, if a single is made unavailable / is “withdrawn” but the album is still available, if you have the link to the single release, Spotify will still play the song, because it’s available in the album release, and both pages use the same source audio.

Atisket is a good way to check if a spotify release is unavailable everywhere, because it checks every country where it is and isn’t available.

Got a few name fix edits to carry out:

https://musicbrainz.org/release-group/8a81bd31-7d1a-4b79-8e6d-26214f239c23/open_edits

Some of the tracks in either one will need to be merged with those that can be found in other albums of the same entry (another of which I intend to add to the site soon), such as Release “怪盗セイント・テール BEST OF BEST” by Various Artists - MusicBrainz
Also, it will allow for easier work identification on JASRAC as well as MINC where ISRC’s can be pulled from.

(A few fixes remain on the following album too:)

I’m removing single version from The Final Countdown 5:09 recording that appears on original album.

https://musicbrainz.org/edit/123014435

The recording also appears on some later releases marked as singles, but they rather look like EP/maxi singles, featuring more than 2 songs.

Only one track in more than 300 has this comment.

There are earlier (original?) singles with the shorter 4:00 recording that would deserve the single version comment, more than this.

Correcting a guessed name to its proper reading (in particular because a merge is queued after it):

Could I get some more input here: https://musicbrainz.org/edit/123309529 ?
Especially from people who like having festival names in live bootleg titles / live disambiguation.

Mistakenly added the wrong ISRC set, sorry / https://musicbrainz.org/release/a6d79c79-bed3-4740-b563-d8d18f2f1e91/open_edits
