last monday I helped execute the oauth / accounts migration to metabrainz, and worked on some followup fixes during the rest of the week
also spent some time preparing a new MBS / MB docker release which I’m building images for now

Picard: Merged 10 PRs — tag diff highlighting (PICARD-1164, #3284), fix copy of deleted tags (PICARD-3349, #3285), scrollable Options dialog (PICARD-3351, #3287), plugin API: persist (PICARD-3356, #3300) + unregister script vars (PICARD-3355, #3298), cover art flow simplification (#3295), CLI refactoring (#3288, #3289), ruff 0.16.0 update (#3286). Open: script-generated match icons (#3302). Also continued work on scripting for local cover art (PICARD-1044, #3042).

• PICARD-1164: Word diff for tags
• PICARD-3349: Copying the “new” column of a deleted tag in the metadata box copies the old value instead of empty
• PICARD-3351: Options dialog is sometimes too big in height, impossible to access Make It So button
• PICARD-3356: Expose plugin_persist storage in plugin v3 API
• PICARD-3355: Allow plugins to unregister script variables and allow double registering
• PICARD-1044: Allow the usage of scripting for loading local cover art

Bot mitigation: Per-IP rate limiting + PoW challenge wall in openresty-gateways (#38, #40, #41). Dedicated keydb-gateways-antibot instance (docker-server-configs#379, metabrainz-ansible#98, bot-detector-config#6). Fixed orphaned SO_REUSEPORT sockets causing ~50% connection failures (#38). Handled 2026-08-01 botnet traffic surge (incident report in #40).
Server upgrades & monitoring: Upgraded gateway servers to Ubuntu 24.04 (metabrainz-ansible#93, ansible-role-haproxy: skip PPA, bump haproxy to 2.8). Added solrcloud VMs to Icinga monitoring + fixed icinga2 role bugs (metabrainz-ansible#94).
Other infra: Set up haproxy-internal Docker image + health endpoint on metabrainz.org oauth (#602, docker-server-configs#372, metabrainz-ansible#97). Bumped docker-openresty to v1.31.1.1-1. Fixed stale lock files in mbstats (#32).
Reviews: 14 PR reviews across picard and picard-website (oauth switch, cyanrip log fix, tomlkit optional, thread typehints, dep bumps).
Plus usual supervision, minor fixes, performance audits, security upgrades, MB edits.
A new Picard beta soon ; )

Since last meeting, I did have a break, then had an MB dev meeting and investigated MB search ugprades for Q4.

not much to report this past week since i was unfortunately largely unavailable for MeB stuff, but did get a few things done, like:

• did some prep work/research for jira 11 upgrade later this year (and apparently a v12 may come out as well? surprised atlassian is still planning to release new stuff that close to data center version end of life)
• helped zas debug some of the anti-bot mitigations after they went live (mostly by running into bugs and asking for assistance )
• kept up with picard dev updates and found them useful as always : D
• a little more infra refactor research on the side

[monkey] Last couple of weeks I mostly worked on the OAuth migration and associated changes to MeB.org/translations
I also continued work on the ListenBrainz infrastructure, learning and documenting a bit more troubleshooting steps. Had meetings to talk about the infra.
Worked on some big updates to Spotify OAuth too, following their change to expire refresh tokens
And continued following GSOC projects and helping move them along
Also worked on BookBrainz CI workflows following some breakage, not quite done yet as they are working but I want to improve the reporting/visibility on PRs
Lots of smaller tasks thrown in, but that’s most of it.

Last week I worked on MusicBrainz code a bit, plus I spent some time looking at the migration issues that came up
(so, basically, I read support email and asked lucifer and monkey to fix stuff)
Additionally I was working on some more ED stuff, emails, meetings and the like, more on that later

[mailed in] Last week there was a problem with the Picard Docs on Weblate.
A new contributor had completed a significant number of translations into Swedish.
Weblate showed the language as approximately 30% complete.
I added the contributor to the acknowledgements page, but after 2 days this change still hadn’t showed up on Weblate, and their translations hadn’t showed up in our repo on GitHub.
With significant help from outsidecontext, over about 4 days we were able to get Weblate to finally show the new translator’s name in the translation strings, but Weblate dropped ALL of the translations that the translator had entered!
The commits that Weblate had created for the translations were never pushed to the repo on GitHub (but Weblate did push over 500 commits with no changes other than the date in the PO files headers), and Weblate removed all traces of the translation commits from its repo and system.
Needless to say, I contacted the translator to explain the situation (that all of their work had been lost), and apologized profusely.
I don’t know if they will ever contribute again (and I can understand if they don’t).
On a happier note, today is a holiday here and also my birthday. I’m now officially a septuagenarian!

During the last weeks I’ve been reviewing PRs for Harmony and my other open source stuff.
For Harmony there will be a Melon provider soon and there was a discussion (and a PR) for handling Qobuz barcodes without check digit.
With MetaBrainz OAuth finally being available, I thought about not only using that to import tags to MB but also make login mandatory for Harmony to lock out bots.
I was surprised by receiving the first contribution for my Dark Side of MB userstyle as well.
And I finally reviewed julian45’s PR for my SnapStorage library (which powers Harmony).

[ansh] Last week, I primarily focused on performance improvements for ListenBrainz. I refactored LB Radio to make direct database calls instead of API calls, reducing WSGI thread usage. I also added a caching layer on top of the popularity endpoints and parallelized a couple of database queries while fetching feed events to improve performance.
In addition, I worked on the frontend for notification settings in ListenBrainz and continued reviewing GSoC PRs.

Last week, I mostly worked on the reviews in my PRs by monkey. Started making the collectionTab ui but thought it would be better to merge it with browseTab ( still have to finalize this and also work on the new api endpoint /collection/collectionid in BB API )
Maybe in the meantime we can merge and have a working calibre plugin with browse and metadata tab

So, most of you know that I’ve spent the last months dealing with ED issues. Which, as I have been told in private, is confusing wording - that is executive director issues, not erectile disfunction issues
That being, trying to keep the whole thing going while the board found someone else who actually hopefully knew what they were doing
I am happy to announce that the board has indeed found someone who actually hopefully knows what she is doing, so I want to introduce our new Executive Director, Silona Bonewald

About the Weblate lost Swedish commits, I don’t know how it works but, maybe the commits are on some Weblate user branch, or something like that?

Their official forum is GitHub Discussions, apparently… I guess you know more and have tried stuff, already…
