How to properly add Labels to music videos OR are you supposed to at all?

Hey,
Recently I made a script for picard to add relevant Music Video Data to MP4 Video files.

“Relevant Music Video Data” is based on this image (just realized that link was a download, Embarrassing) here

So I started adding Music videos today based on those guide lines and go in trouble on, as far as I can tell, all of them for not properly using the label field.

The three notes I got where:

> © 2023 DLG Recordings, LLC, under exclusive license to Island Records, a division of UMG Recordings, Inc.

> (P) & © 2012 Le Café De La Danse / Wagram Label / Wagram Music

Also release label

> (P) & © 2012 Le Café De La Danse / Wagram Label / Wagram Music

Also release label

And I’m not sure what to do with that information.

I also tried asking what to do in the voting notes which, hindsight I do not think they where for. oops.
But then I remembered these forums exist and decided to make this post.

Also I realize one outcome might be that your not supposed to link labels to the music videos at all. I would like that to not be true because the script I mentioned earlier relies on the label field as a cross reference, though I guess I can just write a new script.

Thank you for help.

OH! the person replied!

They replied with this:

https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/STYLE-702

> Use this relationship for credits like “Recording was produced by X for Label”.

which I think means that the specific way I denoted the label, which was “contracted production for / produced for”, was the wrong relationship type.

I guess now my question is: Is their a relation ship type to link Music Videos to the Labels they use in Music Video credits?

Of course a lot of these videos didn’t have music video credits and I just guessed what they would have added…
I feel like this would be easier if I knew more about music labels than I do.

Again thanks for any assistance.

howdy~

we’re actually currently having a big discussion about how to properly enter music videos here, if you have any input

to clarify your question, you’re building an external tool to display info about a music video, and wondering where to pull the label data from/where to put this data?

based on the discussion above, it’s looking like music videos might get their own releases (partly because of the lack of label relationships for recordings), so you could use that and perhaps fall back on the same place you’d get the album name in that screenshot?

Oh Dang! Well I guess if the systems in flux theirs not a lot that can be done.

Oh no, to classify the question I have a bunch of music video entries are made where the label fields I added are being removed. like this one.

I was wondering what the proper procedure for adding labels to music videos was so I could avoid that from happening since its happened to nearly all of the music videos I’ve created.

Though it sounds like your saying all the rules and guidelines for this process are in flux so it might be until a consensus is reached.

and also, slightly off my own topic but, to clarify how this relates to my script, I made this script here to get Music Video Data using Music Brainz Picard. The only reason this script exists is because you can’t get the album from a music video entry, so I basically had the script get the song the music video was made for, and load the metadata for that song and pick an album from that songs list of albums.
All very roundabout and guess-y but I had to make do.

The script also uses the label the Music Video was made for to improve its guess at which album is the correct album to use.

Also it sounds like I should bring this up on the topic you just sent, though that’s intimidating cus I’m a recluse and making this topic was already hard O_O

OH! Also thank you. I almost forgot.

I think Reo is waiting a little bit to start the How to Enter discussion over there, currently we’re figuring out the What to Enter

Ok, I’ll make a shorter post then.
A few people who have a similar use case to mine might be interested (getting music video metadata to use with a program called “ErsatzTV”) so I will the info their way! Hopefully their input is helpful, if they give any at all.

EDIT: actually maybe your right, it’s not really whats being discussed right now. Maybe I’ll wait? I don’t KNOW I’m not used to forums X_X
I will still let the others know whats happening though.
