Crediting band members at an event

Another event question from me, probably not the last. This is similar to Crediting individual performers at a event but it doesn’t look like that was resolved at the time.

These shows always had a house band. The rundown and related releases often just credit the band, but the specific band members and instruments were always named in the show credits. I’d really like to get those recorded, to be able to see when band members came and went and who was doing what over time. (For regular members I could use artist relationships with the band(s) to record that, but I have to actually have the information first, and this would help me get it. Also, there were sometimes fill-ins or extra instruments, like a one-off brass section.)

Now, I’m already stretching the limits of events a little with my artist credits. The host is the host, and I assign the guest artists for each show as guests, that seems clear enough. (Although sometimes the guest artists have band members who could be credited, too - see below.)

I’ve been putting the house band and regular cast members under “support acts”, but that doesn’t leave anywhere for band member credits to go. Maybe I should switch them over to “main performers” and put band members in “support acts”? It doesn’t quite fit the description, but the next best option would be to put band members in “participants” and that’s even further off the mark in terms of the intended use of that category.

Here’s an example. I’ve put the credits from the show page in the annotation for now. The credits I haven’t added to the event are the band members of The Dayton’s Parking Ramp Band, and also Brandi Carlile’s backing musicians. Suggestions?

I decided this was worth a ticket:

Isn’t it what the @ artist lines in the Setlist field are made for?

But there are no links back from artists to events, doing this way.

There should be an Appearances section in their Events tab.
If it’s made for this.

Right, setlists don’t create two-way relationships (there’s another ticket for that). But in this case it wouldn’t matter anyway; these are the equivalent of release-level relationships. All we know is that they performed this instrument/role at this event.

But their band is already linked and it would not look right to see the member linked at the same level as their band, IMO, little bit redundant (artist same as band artist) or misleading (like if they were not band members).
Here is such bad example I created some time ago.

It’s a detail that looks better in the Setlist, if it becomes bidirectional link.

If setlist becomes it’s own entity you might even be able to attach artists to a setlist the way you can to a release. But since that’s not going to happen any time soon, a different kind of artist relationship would help distinguish “band” from “an individual who performed”

If there are two bands performing the event, the relationships won’t show which band the artists are members of.

And support members are not supported.

The Setlist can show those.

I agree that the band relationships would be a helpful part (thus my idea of a “lineup” but the two way setlist credits are much higher priority). The fact this isn’t currently supported is part of my point - there’s value in it and desire for it, so how can we make it happen?
