Asking for help adding releases thread

I try get as much corrected tonight.

Release group is now good. Don’t worry about Discogs showing different versions in their group. If someone else comes along with that Dutch one they can now add it to your RG.

If you want bonus points on that Release Group you could note that it includes three other Release Groups - Toto, Turn Back and Hydra

See that Bruce Springsteen one mentioned earlier for an example of this.

By linking your RG with a relationship like this it gives a direct link to the three albums the box holds.

No rush. It is all about the learning how to do things. Just you have a 24 hour window that means changes to a new release go through instantly without seven day voting queues.

I just assume it always puts the direction opposite to the one I want.

Corrected, or linked.. It looks OK now. Just wasn’t coming up in the search or direct search..

Click on it and the right recording appears. So all is good.

Search is some kinda black magic that has its own delays in updating and “reasons” for not finding things you think it should find. Hence why I usually just fall back to copy\pasting the URL of a recording from a different release.

Well done at getting a fairly complex release added. I also like your annotation notes - especially the bits about the red CD trays. Little things like that are always good to know. Especially if buying it second hand in case the trays have been swapped out.

And your photos seem to show the packaging type is a “box”?

Yes, its a box, open on the right (No Side). The three CD’s are then displayed.I’ll try get a decent pic from phone to upload.

Thanks for the suggestions and guidance!
I have added a side shot of the Jewel Cases, just about see the red trays!

Hello again.

Another release with lots of releases like Floyd DsotM.

Looking for advice on this release please, imported via scripts from discogs:

Discogs display is Simon and Garfunkel, where as the artist searchable on MB is Simon & Garfunkel.

Is it OK to use ‘and’ instead of ‘&’
Also this might be a release to merge??
The back of the jewel case is similar without a barcode different matrix Release “Bridge Over Troubled Water” by Simon and Garfunkel - Cover art - MusicBrainz

The key is what is on the cover. So it is fine to use “and” here on the main Release Artist.

As general, best to follow what others are doing.

And “no” to merging with the other release. The reason the matrixes are different are due to different pressings from different factories in different years. The factory difference means don’t merge them.

A bigger difference is with the CDs. Look at the images of the two different CDs here. On the right hand side the stack of boxes and text are different to each other. Also the copyright text around the bottom CD edge is different.

Awkward, the jewel case cover printed ‘Simon and Garfunkel’ and the CD printed ‘Simon & Garfunkel’, so what is the best practice, cover or CD..

Yeah now you mention the full ring of black around the CD and the half ring its clear. :magnifying_glass_tilted_left: :eyes:

Cover usually comes first. But also just look at what others have done and follow their lead.

This only appears black on a scanner due to diffraction of light. Really that is silver.

Hopefully done this justice  :

You are looking for this Release Group…

Search is a good start. Or even better go to the artist and look around.

First, merge your new Release Group with the current Release Group.

Second, merge your new recordings with the current Recordings used on those releases.

(I point you to tasks to learn how to do the above… but ask and you’ll get assistance…)

Third, you have a compilation in hand as it is a collection of older tracks already released. Not a new album.

Ok, made a dogs dinner.. No problem learning.

Trying my hand at another seems a subset of classics CD’s. Made a mess of the tracks like beethoven 1st track split to three.

Seems a subset of https://musicbrainz.org/release/7fcffaf7-5a83-4309-a860-55eb346c5013

Make a pile of mistakes is the best way to learn. If you need help untangling, shout.

Outside of my pay grade. Classical is weird and I can’t help.

OK, thought with it being a ‘special edition’.

With a popular artist it is going to be pretty unusual to need to make a new release group. What caught you out here is you thought it was a plain “album”, but it comes under “album+compilation+remix”. If you have use the Release Group to do a bit of a search would have helped.

Personally I go look into the Artist and see what I can find as a guide.

You use the Discogs Import Script… notice these icons

That shows you there are already releases in MusicBrainz. Which covers items 1 and 2. It means you can join another Release Group and share the Recordings.

Those pink icons can also be clicked on to jump direct to that release in MB. Real handy.

Ok, think I have the release group, but seems a wait to do the other edits?
