Started ripping my CD collection.
Already fallen foul to Pink Floyd DSotM, with my recording nowhere to be seen in either MB or Discogs.
Came across another Toto release.

Ah yes, ripping one’s collection can be quite the task.
You didn´t tell us which version of Dark Side you have. We already have quite a large collection of releases in the release group. If yours isn´t in there, you should just add it. The big Pink Floyd expert around here is @IvanDobsky, who might be able to assist.
As to your Toto release: you can import it from Discogs using the Discogs import script. You can find instructions here
ETA: I just noticed that you already ran into Ivan during editing. If I understand correctly, your copy doesn’t resemble existing releases and you can create a new entry.
Honestly, I’d be nervous adding a missing Pink Floyd release as well but if you’ve dug around and think you have a release not yet included I’m sure you’re fine. Folks here are pretty chill.
I spent too many hours looking at the little differences of Pink Floyd releases. Would drive anyone mad.
Hello again @bmwgser. To get the exact release of your CD we need better details. Ideally scans of the actual CD and Rear Cover would be a good start. Most of the differences are in those two areas. Here in the forum we can at least post that artwork (even if just a mobile phone photo) and I can better help to find your release. Or add a new release to handle it.
Not sure how you found that 1988 release before, but attaching 1993 data to it wasn’t a match. Hence the edit conversation.
On there you quoted a matrix of “746001 2 . 17:1:32 EMI SWINDON” and said the CD looks like the 1993 reissues. We need to narrow down what is actually written on the CD. I have seen so many of these, which is why I ask to see a photo of yours.
If it is the example Discogs page you are pointing at, then we can quickly import that into MB if needed.

I have started to realise! I decided on cyanrip on linux, this stores a lot of information from Musicbrianz in the flac tags so I wanted to try at least to get it right first time, but its a chore when data in missing,wrorg or not quite the same as what I’m ripping from.
Discovered Cyanrip is using release title, not the track title, so this is a pain.
Anyway, Yes, had a conversation with Ivan about DSotM. for this release the closest I can get is this release:

I have only just started to rip 2k of CDs, I’m now thinking this might be a lifetime of work. Not sure whether to ditch the effort and go back to my LP’s which I also have a 70’s version of DSotM.

How to correctly list on MB?
Those small numbers change a lot during a production run. The 17:1:32 is pressing details that don’t cause a new release. Lets import that release shall we? Then you can improve that one for MB.
So you have NINE tracks on the CD? Speak to Me and Breathe are combined? Track list of that one shows combined tracks. Ah, yes. That now makes sense when I look at the edit we met on adding a DiscID. That is a nine track discID.
Do you want me to import the Discogs page for you and get things setup ready? We can then move your DiscID to it?
That would be even more confusing at trying to find the correct one at Discogs. 
We should import the boxset and make it as a box set. We copy data from Discogs and from those other three releases.

. I have got a few dozen ripped so far, but I have a lot of weird eclectic CD’s and box sets.
I have never imported from discogs, do I need to learn the process?
As for the DSotM I can supply a photo of the matrix, covers etc if needed, the picture on the CD matches the one on Discogs. Same with the Bar code area F: PM 520 UK: CDSHVL 804
But the matrix code missing as a variant on the Discogs release.. It seems in the middle of those already specified.

Based on the photo of the CD - “BIEM/MCPS, Made in UK” at the bottom. I also see the corner of the last page of the booklet with its barcode. Plus your matrix is that Discogs release. Also your rear cover has the same little codes underneath the bar code. D: and F: are German and French price codes. And a UK Catalogue Number of CDSHVL 804
All of the above are little details that change between the various releases.

Have borrowed artwork from the Pink Floyd Archive. Matches your release I believe. (He has a hell of a good reference site over there for making sense of versions)
If you can add your DiscID on this one it will be a good reference.
I assume you hit the 1988 release due to the 9 track layout of your CD. Within the year a new remaster appeared and changed the CD to 10 tracks. So the one you picked was UK and right number of tracks… just looked different.
And your matrix having the 32 and EMI clashing is due to the different parts of the process the text happens. The EMI is in the glass master, the 17:1:32 is from the actual mould this was pressed from ( A nice geeky explanation here of those numbers: Pink Floyd Archives-U.K. CD Discography )
Perhaps I could hijack this thread, only slightly and ask @IvanDobsky if he might cast an eye over the version of DSotM I added to see if this is all good.

Looks good. All the important stuff in place. Little bits I would tweak:
Generally looks good to me as it has all the important details in place. And easy to tell apart from other releases.
Now I am a little OTT with adding a release. Not a level I’d expect other people to go to. Personally when I have a CD in hand I pull out other details I can read. Normal people would not go this far. Especially as this release has some very clear features that shows how this release is different.
I add Copyright, Manufacture Location, Manufacture Label, etc… I read these from the back cover and CD. I may do that to your Release later today if I get time.
It is pretty intuitive, once you have the script installed. You can visit this post where another user is guided through the process.
My tip on playing with importers is pick something obscure to mess around with. Find one of your odd and unusual CDs. Then importing it is easier as you are able to make mistakes and correct them in your own time. Starting with Dark Side of the Moon was a brave choice of literally diving in at the deep end.
Feel free to post back in this thread to ask people here for help. We all started out knowing nothing. When I made my first edit I didn’t even know what a matrix was or anything about CD manufacturing. Now I know way to much for any sane person.

Is the Toto box set a good place to try the import process, or is this more complicated as the individual CD’s do get identified on MB.
I have around a hundred CD digitized so far, most of which seem to have been identified on barcode (and a few other basic bits) with out ambiguity.. Some had the barcodes but no DiscID attached so adding the TOC was straight forward.
I prefer Cyanrip over Whipper on Linux, I have a nice bash wrapper script, but I have bought dbPowerAmp too for MS Windows.
It ain’t too weird. So go for it. And link your work here and we’ll help.
That Springsteen version is a guide as to how it works.
With a box like that you will likely want to just “add medium” and then search for the ones that already exist. It is a bit geeky to make sense of, but go for it. Even if you only add one medium per edit it is fine. Just take your time.
You only learn by making mistakes. The bigger the feck-up, the more you learn.

I’ll feedback, I have another Toto double CD missing no barcode 12+5 set.. Also in Discogs so will try that one first.
Finally got around to attaching the TOC to the floyd import. How did you know the check digit was missing from the BC print, (It don’t help us dense folk identify releases 
)
