Whether to merge audio-wise same recordings but with different artist credits

similar to

but here the question was about the AC, the underlying artist entities seem to be the same

My question is specifically when the artists are different for the same audio material

For example, another artist releases a cover but uses the same instrumentals (provided by the composer) - see Track #2 below

Or, a composer releases a version as the primary artist, but for some specific region the vocalist is credited. Currently considering this case, Tracks #1 and #2 of the first RG is the same audio-wise as Tracks #1 and #3 of the second:

I think both cases should be merged, and the recording artist credits should be based on the earlier release? But wanted to seek some guidance here

You merge recordings if they are literally the same audio. Not because they sound the same.

If the same tape has two different names on it, then that is merged.

If in one area this recording is credited to the band, another area credited to the vocalist, then as long as it is the exact SAME recording then it can be merged.

If someone listens to a recording, and makes a cover, then it is not the same.

If someone makes a recording, then puts out the instrumental version without the vocals, then this is not the same recording and is not merged.

Credits tend to stay with the original recording artist. Or at least the most popular\accepted name

If someone steals a recording and slaps a fictitious name on it, that is the same recording.

That Guy is hellishly confusing… glad this website put me off of Classical music. I’d never know what to do with him :joy:

But the vocals are not performed by same person?
So, it’s not the same recording.

This is completely different than first example. These are the same, so, they can be merged, of course.

I think I wasn’t clear with my first example, where I only meant the Instrumental version, which is Track #2.

Didn’t really mean to claim that Track #1 in respective albums, sung by different vocals, would be the same recording

Oh then, if they are the same backing tracks (karaoke) and everything in these tracks from start to end do sound exactly the same, then they should be merged, indeed, and such comments as ナルセーナver. should not be kept (you can merge targetting the recording without version comment, as it’s also the oldest).

But, please ear check, because the AcoustID are not exactly the same.

oh got it, I actually randomly picked them for demonstation here without having listened to those, since I know he re-used instrumentals on some of his other releases

Thanks for advice
