What's the max artist limit on a release

With tongue mostly in cheek, once the full list of 1,000 artists is available, how many of them can be added as release artist, or should they just be listed as performer ARs, or perhaps just “member of” artist-artist relationships?

1,000 UK artists are co-releasing a ‘silent’ album in protest of potential UK AI laws, allowing for scraping of any music online unless the artist or rights holder explicitly opts out: Kate Bush and other artists protest AI copyright laws with silent album - BBC News

If it was me I’d keep it as a “supergroup” using the campaign name. Then set them as members of that group.

Not just to be tidy, but I assume this is how the shops like Spotify will sell this.

I get they all get a vocal credit. Or do some play silent instruments?

The technical limit is probably either “none” or based on just how much data fits in some text value like artist credit name in the Postgres database.

The reasonable limit is “more than five or six means Various Artists”, I’d say  In this case, I think the current artist credit is the intended one, and artists can be added as performer relationships if we know who was silent on each track, and/or as “collaborators” (not members) on the artist.

Or what it takes to timeout the request

There’s no vocals, about a dozen tracks which each sound like they’re uncut recordings from individual spaces of just… life noise (air cons, keyboards tapping, someone shuffling, sirens from outside, and so on). I think field recording would be the right term. Whether this is composed from 1,000 different sources is… debatable but unlikely.

Thank you all for indulging my shitpostery  i think the supergroup approach by @IvanDobsky and collaborators by @reosarevok will be the right approach.

MusicBrainz can handle +700 collaborators without a hitch.

Not sure I will recover though :joy:
