What cover art (if any) should I use for Youtube releases?

For Youtube/Niconico only releases should I add anything for the cover art? If so, what should it be? For my own collection I know I would like to have album art on these songs. The only thing that makes sense to me would be the thumbnail, or possibly a still image from the video depending on the content of the video.

For YouTube videos, I always just use the video thumbnail provided by the uploader/YouTube.

Its URL usually follows this format: https://i.ytimg.com/vi/<video id>/maxresdefault.jpg. Just replace the video id with the v query parameter content from the YouTube video URL.

I don’t know if I will ever use it, but for the moment, I’ve added that https://i.ytimg.com/vi/%s/maxresdefault.jpg custom search engine nicknamed ytt to my Vivaldi browser, just in case. Thanks

I forgot to ask this in the main question, what should I be marking the thumbnail as for the cover art type. “Front” seems like the obvious choice, but I guess I could see an argument for “Other”?

You need to mark it as “front” to be shown as cover on the release page iirc.

I suggest marking it as front, for the reason given by @PacCeggowk9oc. While it doesn’t fit perfectly in the context of a YouTube video thumbnail, it can be considered a primary image, which would be the front cover for most types of relases.
