Using a related language's style guide

I recently added a release that I thought was Spanish, and I followed the Spanish style guide as best I could. Then I realized that it was probably actually Ladino, not Spanish. Does it make sense to keep the capitalization from the Spanish guide, or switch to what was printed on the release?

In general when working with languages without a style guide that are closely related to one with a guide, should we follow the guide for the closely related language?

Relatedly, what about historical titles? E.g., does it make sense to follow the English style guide for a title in Early Modern English?

Yes, in general and in these specific cases, it makes most sense to follow the standard of the closest related language that has one.

(Of course, seeing that we have almost 400 languages but only 29 language-specific guidelines, there will be cases where this doesn’t help.)
