Tracking Engineer vs Recording Engineer

My release specifies “tracking engineer”. What should the credit be? This is google AI’s response.

Key differences:
Focus:
A tracking engineer is mainly concerned with setting up microphones, capturing the best possible performance from musicians, and ensuring each instrument is recorded cleanly on its separate track, while a recording engineer handles all aspects of capturing audio, including making decisions on edits, effects, and overall sound shaping.
Stage of production:
Tracking engineers are primarily involved in the “tracking stage” where individual parts are recorded, whereas a recording engineer might work across multiple stages including tracking, editing, and even some initial mixing.

I always just thought they were the same thing. That’s how I’ve always credited them. If you read the description on recording engineer it says it’s for everything you just stated.

I’m not too familiar with the different engineer roles, but Sound Engineer sounds a bit closer to what the AI suggests than Recording Engineer.

You could also use the generic “Engineer” relationship and specify the task as “Tracking engineer”.
