I need help!
This recording is a jazz interpretation and differs from the original work in many respects.
Full title as printed:
Theme From Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 54 (Schumann)
You can listen to it on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wHLCI0ptXbY
Is it a recording of the original work? Is it an arrangement? Or is it a new work that quotes music from the original work?
And what is the original work? I looked up the title:
I would be grateful for any help!
With classical music, we often create special “catch-all for arrangements” works that are connected to the original works. We commonly use these with arrangements that can’t be performed by others (the score might not be published) or recorded twice. Classical guidelines clearly state that we should include only works that can be performed or recorded by other musicians. While there are no specific guidelines for jazz, I suggest adopting a similar approach.
If you add a relationship with the catch-all work, such as this one: Work “Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in A minor, op. 54” - MusicBrainz (I just created it), the original work used as a basis is easy to identify.
