和太鼓 / Taiko / Wadaiko

Continuing the discussion from Drums vs. drumset:

Just replying in a side topic for the recording, Kodō is not an instrument, it’s a group. :slight_smile:

And the instrument that this group is known for playing is called taiko (太鼓) outside of Japan, and Japanese call it 和太鼓 – wadaiko – for 和≈Japanese 太=thick 鼓=drum.

Ah, I stand corrected.
As a young boy I once witnessed a performance of them, and that probably had such impact on me that ‘kodo’ stuck as a synonym for the drums for me.
