[Solved] I merged two releases I should not have

Hello !

Edit : you can find how we solved my mistake in the replies and in the new release there ( Release “private music” by Deftones - MusicBrainz )

When I started providing information on MusicBrainz, I suggested to merge two releases which, now that I understand more what differentiated them, I believe I should not have.

Whilst they shared a lot of information, they were released in different region of the world and their matrix differ, things I did not know by then.

Is there anything I can do to un-merge them ?
Do I create 2 new releases with the information the merged one has (including cover arts and external information) and then delete it ?

Create one new release, for the European release, upload the Europe coverart

Edit the worldwide release to make it the USA/Canada release, if possible to identify, remove the Europe cover art.

Move all specific scans from @ERSthan’s edition to your new release.
Here are all the ERSthan edits.
Keep Disc ID in both editions as I see the same has been uploaded by both original editors @zyzzyxdonta then @ERSthan, for their respective editions.

I think I’ve done all the needed edits, but :

  • I’m not able to add Disc ID to the european release. If I move it from the USA & CA one, it will be removed there right ? So I leave it blank ?
  • I was not able to move cover arts so I saved and reuploaded them, mentioning original author in the note, then removed them from the other release.

DiscIDs are usually different either side of the pond. Best to leave the DiscID on the release it was originally added to.

Disc ID is the same for both editions, according to original editors:

Tell me the URL of your new @ERSthan release copy, so that I add the disc ID there, with a script I have.

That’s kind of you mudcrow ! I’m glad we fixed the issue.

I edited the first post to add the new release link. If anyone does the same mistake, they’ll see how we solved it in its history.
