Roy Orbison - Our Love Song (wrong track order and more)

I have spent several days on this one release and contacted the 2nd release submitter to insure what I found was correct. I am planning an edit of renaming the tracks and recordings since discIDs are on each. I hope this make sense, feel free to ask questions, its a lot of data.

Roy Orbison - Our Love Song (release group)

Both releases in the RG were the result of a bad freeDB entry
Actually there are 3 freeDB entries that have wrong track order and one that is correct.
All of this due to the album art which has song listing and not in correct order with a disclaimer of “See label for Sequence”.

Only the medium has the correct sequence/order.

How 3 wrong freeDB entries got introduced is a good question, maybe the first wrong entry was twice cloned.
If you look at the Roy Orbison recordings for each of the three affected songs you can see that the track times for these songs never existed.

Also 2 discIDs have been applied and much worse acoustIDs applied to the miss-ordered recordings on each release.
My plan is to just rename the tracks and recordings in place since there is a discID on both releases.
Once that edit goes through the correct song name should appear on the correct recording and I can disable the incorrect one (see all the data below).

Nice spot. Repairing bad data like this is a satisfying type of edit. I’ve had a few where a track was swapped on a track list, but the error is clear when you listen to it.

I didn’t have time to read the huge post but:

Usually, you should rename tracks and swap recordings, instead.

But it’s case by case, check the ISRC AcoustID, etc. to decide if it’s better to swap recordings (if they are correct on their own), or to rename them (if they are incorrect on their own).

Yes, a lot of data, I had to put it in several notes and give it a rest over several days then come back to it. In this case the track positions had the correct times due to the discIDs but the wrong name. It appeared the quickest cleanup afterwards would be to leave the discIDs alone and just edit the track/recording names, which would fix 3 of the acoustIDs, then clean up the rest after the edit cleared.

It was extremely helpful that the editor who added the second release responded to my email and took the time to look at their album and their rips to verify my findings, we have a great community dedicated to getting it correct.

I will add a annotation to the release group to point out the 3 bad freeDB entries to help ensure this does not happen again.
