Romantically involved with relationship

How much visibility/coverage does a relationship between two artists need to be considered valid and added to MusicBrainz? Does it have to be acknowledged by both parties? What if it’s mentioned in an interview with an artist? Is that sufficient?

A rough example would be Fred Durst’s relationship with Brittany Spears, which has received mass coverage over the years, but which she publicly denied. Fred Durst has gone on record several times over the years detailing the romance and he also wrote a couple of songs during the Results May Vary era about her.

If it’s debated I probably wouldn’t put it in, as there’s no way to mark something as ‘maybe’ in MB.

Also, hasn’t she gone through enough?
Fred flippin’ Durst… Related, this is one of the most awkward videos I’ve ever seen

I would take it a step further and use the phrase “artist intent”, she does not want to be linked to him.

That said I find it rewarding to document musical families and their musical relationships to the extent that it helps “history”. Where the information could be considered gossip I leave it in my notes, not in the database. Relationship information is crucial in determining the link between artists and the artists themselves, it helps us in determining when or if we can merge an artist.
