This my have been asked before. I tried searching for the answer, but couldn’t find. Which way is preferred?
- Livin’ la vida loca (Spanish capitalisation)
- Livin’ La Vida Loca (All capitals, as per most songs.)
- Livin’ la Vida Loca (As per wikipedia, and many other locations)
- As per album cover
I suppose this relates to many other titles as well.
“Livin’” is an English word. In my opinion, this is an example of an English title with a “borrowed” Spanish phrase.
In the MB documentation for Releases, it makes the point:
“…it is quite common for languages to borrow words and phrases, and so “Je ne sais quoi” in an English title does not make something multiple languages, nor do a few English words in a foreign language title.”
If we extend that point to this situation, this album is an English-language album (I disagree with its current designation as ‘multiple languages’ in several MB release records). It seems to me this title should be treated as an English title with a “borrowed” Spanish phrase, capitalized according to English rules:
Livin' la Vida Loca
That’s my two cents, anyway.
