Record Store Day

So for some reason I thought I’d add the UK RSD26 releases. All of them. Joyful procrastination.

500ish releases added to Record Store Day 2026 - MusicBrainz including checking if they were released in the US - which was more likely to include tracklistings, but generally had lower quality images. Many are somewhat empty releases - just title, album art, medium(s) and release dates - but it’s a start.

I do not fancy doing this for the US releases or again in 2027, and I’ve missed one out I don’t want to know (I sorta do though)

I think many of us recognise this kind of totally pointless task that no sane person would undertake. :military_medal: Especially as I doubt you’ll buy even a fraction of the 500+ releases. Utter madness that the MusicBrainz database would not survive without. Well done, now go and log off and visit the RealWorld™. And maybe your psychiatrist.

The louder point here is I believe this task was done without import scripts… and took two months (based on the 11 pages of edits shown in that series…).

Oh - and when I said “no sane person” - are any of us MusicBrainz editors truly sane? Aren’t we all just obsessives in our own little fields of obscure data? Proud to use my insanity for something useful.

Maybe we need a “confessions of insane tasks” thread… this is the fun part of MB.

What makes it worse is that I don’t even have a record player so I might not even set foot in a vinyl shop next week :joy:

(I’ve ended up with a few vinyls though as parts of other sets or bundles though.)

Closest to script I got was a Chrome plug in for saving as jpg, as one of the sites presents the images as webp… hindsight, eh.

Successfully RealWorlding now…
