Question on adding new release with Disc ID

OK. I have it.

But he doesn’t accept it.

OK, it worked.

Is there anything else that needs to be completed?

Lookup CD it worked too.

Yay! New knowledge is always useful.

Little bits I’d add to your new release…

When you were adding this new release you could have searched for the same Release Group. In the Release Group box you could have used the magnifying glass to search out the other release and link the two. (Here is a RG merge to now link these)

Status: Official, Language: English, Script: Latin, Packaging: Jewel Case

On the Recording page you could have linked up to other recordings already in the database. I have used the Mass Merge script to link these recordings for you.

Warning - adding new releases can get addictive…

I’ll take a chance.

Just explain the concept of “Release Group” to me more.

You have a CD with barcode 016581663091 with a title of “BaadAsssss Cinema”. This is a “Release”

In the database there is another “Release” very similar to yours. It shares a title, and most of the tracks are common. Even in the same order.

These are so similar that in MB eyes they are grouped together in a “Release Group”.

If you had the cassette and\or LP you would also put this into the same Release Group. Add a 25th anniversary reissue and some deluxe editions. They are all closely related and mostly same track list so therefore in the same “Release Group”.

Releases from different countries, etc.

Ok I see.

Can you further explain the “Merge” command to me?

When I saw you had made a new “Release Group” I recognised this was a duplicate.

I opened your Release Group and look at the right hand side for the link “Merge”.

I click “Merge”.

I then go and find the page with that other “Baad Asssss Cinema” Release Group and again click Merge

And that pops up this page:

Now I select the older or better quality item and tick it. Then write a note as to why I think they should be merged.

In this case I am merging your freshly made RG into the one that was already here. So the direction is easy.

After a few days \ votes the two RGs will be one and your Release will be listed next to the other Release.

Merging works on most things. Duplicate Releases or Recordings are also common things to merge.
