For many months now, Picard scan has been returning new AcoustID submissions as standalone recordings, rather than matching up to any MusicBrainz Release. What needs to be done to fix this?
Picard standalone recording performance is awful when you’re dealing with more than two files.

Just repeated it. Newly added album ( Doggerel )
I went to my tagged files, used MP3TAG to delete the MusicBrainz MBIDs… dropped the album on the left, Scan, and it neatly ID’s on the right as “standalone recordings”.
These are newly ripped FLACs full of the full Album name, artists, the lot. Track names, AcoustIDs - everything Picard added, just with the MBIDs stripped for testing.
Repeat the same test, this time with the correct album sitting on the right hand side as a tempting target - placed by the TAGGER button… still Standalone Recordings.
Very weird. Especially as the copy on the website shows a full set of (matching) AcoustIDs. Uploaded from these very files a few days ago…
Edit: And it is only Newly added albums. Just tried the above test on an album from three years back and scan works as expected and picked a matching release.
I just looked at the acoustid for the first track of your album on Acoustid - Track "674f06c2-4135-499b-9daa-03724acb5ac7" | AcoustID
Notice that although it is linked to MusicBrainz, it just shows the MusicBrainz id rather than the metadata (Title, Artist, Length)
So it seems Acoustid doesnt have an update cache of MusicBrainz (if that is how it works), I wonder if that could that be the problem?
Random guess, but wouldn’t Picard be talking to AcoustID using MBIDs anyway?
I expect you are correct that this will be a delay\update thing. The refresh on AcoustID can be pretty slow to catch changes in the MB database.
It also explains why it slips through testing as it needs a brand new audio source to work with.
One for @outsidecontext but maybe it uses the meta information provided by Acoustid, and if Acoustid only returns a recording id assumes it is just a standalone recording.
Yes, exactly. AcoustID can return full MB metadata for found matches, and Picard uses this (which avoids an additional request to MB). AFAIK AcoustID uses it’s own mirrored MB database for that, maybe this hadn’t gotten the latest updates yet in this case.
But I guess we could detect cases like this where there is only the recording ID without any other metadata and perform a separate lookup on MB to retrieve the missing data.
I need to see the response AcoustID is returning in cases like this, though. @IvanDobsky could you run Picard with debug logging, scan the file for this AcoustID and share the complete log output here?
Okay… this (huge) log is using pre-tagged files. So first steps you will see it load the album, download artwork. Then I drag back over to the left side and Cluster. Then hit SCAN. Resulting in the image as seen.

Anybody can reproduce this by submitting fingerprints for new music.

Has anybody contacted @lukz - because if it is not showing MusicBrainz metadata on Acoustid after a few days then that indicates an issue with Acoustid.
Doggerel is over a month since submission…
I think I reported essentially the same thing not too long ago: Picard can't match AcoustID of a track, but the AcoustID is added. In that thread @Zas asked @lukz to look into possible replication issues, but there was no reply. Maybe he’s not reading this forum?
Was just coming to look for information about this same thing, good that it’s a known issue. 
Lukas has released a new version of mbdata and updated the Acoustid database, so I believe this issue is now fixed.
Not sure about that. Just added a release and I’m seeing the same behavior still.
Which release is it? If it was freshly added to MB it could still take a short while until AcoustID has the update.
Yeah it seems like it works correctly now, so I guess it takes a little bit longer than I was willing to give it yesterday.
Hopefully this fix will bring back MusicBrainz/AcoustID users who left because of this bug. (I stopped scanning in Picard because of this bug, and I’ve noticed that most music released during the later life of this bug that I’ve purchased hasn’t been submitted by anyone yet.)
Did I misunderstand this bug? I thought the AcoustIDs still uploaded, the issue was more about how they appeared in Picard.
The example album I used above now ID’s correctly as the album when hitting so the issue has certainly been cleared.
I mean that no AcoustID_ID is loaded into Picard when I scan these files, meaning nobody has submitted the music (prior to me doing so just now, after which an AcoustID_ID is loaded).
