Style / Classical / Track Title - MusicBrainz says to include the overall work title in the track titles, which makes sense for most works. Song-cycle “Chants d'Auvergne” - MusicBrainz is described by Wikipedia as “a collection of folk songs from the Auvergne region of France”. That seems pretty different from the more typical overall work case of a symphony, opera, or other cohesive work with multiple parts. For a release of Chants d’Auvergne, does it still make sense to add the collection name to every track?
I would say yes. In this case the “work” is the full arrangement for the ensemble, soloists and singer, and is commonly identified by that name.
In general there is a range of folk-song works from a straight collection and publishing all the way to instrumental/orchestral/vocal arrangements of full suite based on them, so there has to be a dividing line somewhere. But in my opinion Chants d’Auvergne is well to the “work in its own right” side of that line.
