[monkey] Last week I worked on some big PRs to update to Bootstrap 5, and another one for ESLint 9
For BookBrainz, that is
On the LB side, I deployed the new donations page, fixed a couple of things with the artist page, and gave a hand to lucifer for the automated back-end LastFM imports UI
And a bunch of PR reviews and SEC tickets for both projects
And finally, made Youtube icons bigger on LB because they’re apparently worried about size… [rolls eyes]

[ApeKattQuest] This week has been HELL! it’s still not over!
I also looked at ektara/gopichan/tumbi and now remember why I quit in the first place, the wikipages are a cluckerfust
tomorrow I will relax by going to ikea (yes, that’s how hellish this week has become, ikea is relaxing fml)
BUT once that has been done, my workflow should actually improve significantly! (buying a new workstation/bookcase and reorganising stuff so i have easy access to books and more space on my desk)
which should really kick into gear both the bookbrainz style work and instrument work

[mayhem] today I worked on the funding.json project, which I found neat.
a machine readable form of your funding needs – very clever.
I hope to see it take off, perhaps even us can get some dosh.
last week was more cleanup accounting and other internal metabrainz cleanup stuff.
along with a phone call with someone who really wanted to speak to me about their blockchain metadata web thing to fix the music industry
I really tried to get out of that, but no. In the end I started off with: “no one wants your shit”. after that he was so flustered he basically ended the meeting. lol.
I’m also starting to follow up on technical projects like backing up the CAA. some PR work here and there and some pestering of people.
it felt like I was finally getting traction last week, getting past so much MeB bullshit that had piled up.
happy to be in the swing of things, finally.

Last week I completely rewrote the BB import approval logic to reuse exactly the same DB rows wherever possible.
(Previously it was cloning the data)
This work made me finally annoyed enough by the uncertainties of Knex.js and Bookshelf (our old SQL query builder and ORM… JS only), to start using a TS alternative for real.
Setting up Kysely, a type-safe query builder, and generating type definitions for our DB schema took me only 30 minutes and now writing DB queries in TS is much more fun
It’s now available everywhere where the old ORM functions are, so we can migrate from ORM to kysely funtion by function.
That’s about it this week, now I have to finish the official part of GSoC and write a blog post about it.

Last week, I mostly worked on moving services from 3 of our old servers to a new 1 set up by zas and atj.
Also updated our Exim relays, plus the usual support and tickets triage.

Last week I spent most of my time with MBS-13770
[MBS-13770: Allow admins to auto-approve/reject all edit types]
And MBS-13784 which took longer than expected
[MBS-13784: Support paid streaming alongside download for Beatport]
We also added a new status for releases (for which aerozol made a blog post)
To hopefully separate “we took this down” and “kill this with fire” release withdrawals
Plus a bit of all of the usual, translation, support, banning rude people

Last week was mostly about deploying new server (selda), and removing old ones, updating documents related to infrastructure changes
I also ordered a new AX102 to replace 3 more old servers, it should arrive soon
I spent some time downgrading old SOLR cluster VMs to reduce costs until we totally get rid of it (end of this year)
I also updated QNAP devices blacklist to reduce unwanted traffic (eternal war…)
plus usual user support (a lot of related to CAA being down/partially working), MB edits, system upgrades, etc.

last week, i made progress on the last.fm importer and enlisted some help from monkey to finish up the frontend bits.
i hope to finish and merge the importer this week. i also did some work on finalizing the new oauth provider.
finally, also debugged and fixed a sql query deadlock issue in LB which was causing the server to run out of active db connections and unable to serve any requests.

[ansh] Last Week, I worked on making BrainzPlayer album-aware and thereby improving searches.
I also worked on fixing issues with socket connections, and worked on some Tickets.
I’ve also spent time on getting the user flairs settings page ready.

This week I did some work on misc tickets/mockups
Made a fancy (imo) new image for LB update social posts, since I’ve posted the other one about a thousand times now (the LB team does a lot of releases!)
But mainly I finally finished the summit blog post and editing and timestamping the video. I won’t lie, it took a long time. Thanks for the comprehensive notes reosareveok, yvanzo, and anyone else who took notes! The blog post is huge!

Last week I started looking into migrating the search cluster to Solr 9.7.0 and Java 21.
This involved running local tests using my Ansible role and making some modifications due to some changes in CLI script behaviour.
I also helped deploy the new physical server (or was that the week before?) and reviewed a couple of PRs.
