[mailed in] [mayhem] I’ve been having a rough time post-covid, with my sleep being significantly impacted. All last week, I felt like a zombie and not capable of doing much. While my sleep is slowly improving, I’m not out of the woods yet.
That said, last week was minimal work for all critical tasks to run the foundation, but not a whole lot more. Today I will try and get on top of the pending PRs, but then spend a lot more time in the sun which does seem to help my sleep.
Sorry for my absence, but this situation really sucks.

As with most ‘actually new’ MB database changes for MB, looks like it’s not going to get anywhere with the community ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Maybe because it’s a shit idea, I don’t know! But nice to be able to file another thing away as ‘I tried’.
By the way, I am going to be on Holiday for the week of the 22nd this month

working on the leftover things and did a setup for repository and viewmodel for dashboard

last week I finished improving the cover art processing options page for Picard
then I started adding an option to never replace cover art with smaller images
and another to never replace cover art of the selected types

and usual user support, system upgrades, supervision, MB edits.

I was mostly doing code review or working on fixing up the pull requests for MBS-13579 and MBS-13538
[MBS-13579: Seeding release labels for an existing release is only rarely working]
[MBS-13538: Removing all rows in the artist credit editor makes it disappear]
and I worked a bit more on converting parts of the tracklist tab in the release editor to React

And then I’ve been working on creating GitHub - JadedBlueEyes/messageformat: A collection of crates to help with internationalising Rust applications using ICU MessageFormat, which is my support for using MessageFormat in Rust
I’ve implimented parsing MF1, loading strings from JSON files and, just now, a macro for conveniently using those strings
Left to do is implimenting runtime support and integrating with MRML

last week, i worked on improving the soundcloud metadata cache and building a reverse index on top of it. also, looked into the issues with apple music login on LB. also, looked into a couple of dumps related issues.

[monkey] Summer is here and productivity is declining slightly.
On LB, I worked on the manual album submission tool, some fixes and improvements. Had a chat with mayhem and then with ansh about adding more user stats on LB, and the répercutions storage-wise.
Fixed some small bugs and reviewed PRs.
On BB I reviewed PRs, started investigating an ordering issue and updated some docs. Also read some articles and docs about data fetching paterns and about the LB testing framework.

Last week I finished the basic MB provider for Harmony and worked on the linking features which now became possible.
That is directly going to the release actions page for existing releases and seeding external links to the matching MB artists and labels.
Also I finally separated my LB API client and the elbisaur CLI (which now has an upgrade command) to publish both on jsr.io with independent versioning.
Admittedly I got a bit distracted from GSoC by that, but I still managed to solve a few issues with the BB importer UI.
After some issues with outdated React properties and HMR I got the “Edit” action working and am now investigating why “Approve” is still failing : )

Last week (and today) I worked on a bunch of small tickets, including several bugfixes
And on the urging of aerozol I looked into MBS-9356 again
[MBS-9356: Remove existing editors with no confirmed email and no OAuth tokens/edits/votes]
(it might finally be fine? maybe?)
Plus the usual support, and dealing with a few spammy spammers
And nursing a bit of a cold/flu/whatever that seems to hit me every time I fly back from Spain lately

[yellowhatpro] Last week was good, I added the editor spammer logic to the app
Thanks to rustynova, we took a detour and started working on code quality and making the code look more like rust code
fixed the linting, and added good code practices
Started working on the network request part of archival task, had a couple of bugs so still on it

Last week I couldn’t do much but health checks and recovery.
Just a bit of tickets triage, Docker support, and PR reviews.
I should come back gradually this week.

last week I didn’t have much time as I was travelling to Berlin for work. But did some code review for picard and picard website
also managed to update my release type PR for Harmony after kellnerd’s review. I anticipated this to be a simple change, but turned out much larger than expected. Should be close to be done now, though : )
starting monday next week I’ll be on vacation for two weeks and won’t be available for the meetings.

[rimskii] For this week, I finished with apple lookup on LB.
Then I worked on my PR for importing playlists from Apple Music. Huge thanks to ansh and monkey for a feedback! Yet I believe there are some minor fixes left, will try to finish them asap.
Also fixed a bug in troi. It was related to making description optional during fetching them from the apple music
Also worked on soundcloud. So far, importing playlists functions is ready (both for troi and LB). Now Im trying to optimize the code so it will take less API calls and be less data intensive. Tomorrow planning to open a new PR.
So far thats it. Also starting from the next week, I will be mentoring some kids to code xd, so I will try to finish most of my tasks on this week

In the User pages on LB android
Working on the stats page, data fetching is done… am stuck in the graph part currently… hopefully should be completed by tomorrow
After that I plan to get unit tests in before I move on to artist pages

I also got the time to finally make a massive change to dependency management for the android app that I had been avoiding for the past 2 years
I met yellowhatpro in person over the weekend!
That was fun
Who thought MetaBrainz would serve as a good conversation starter? Nerds.

Last week, I mostly spent time on the music player UI for brainzplayer. Things are shaping out pretty good.
And spent some time reviewing PRs. Also, reviewed kubrimskii’s PR. Great Job on that . And also fixed a bug with apple auth I discovered during that.
