Added the final viola (pardessus), a lyra viola and closed related tickets. also closed a few unrelated tickets.
edited some stuff related to it (several pages of viola de gamba)

made progress on setting up the design system. Still got a few creases I need to work on. Apart from that, spent the last two days stranded on airports due to dust storm at delhi. That was meh. Just returned home an hour ago

I got back home yesterday after fighting through 5 hrs of flight delays
Still not as bad as what chhavi had to go through
Started up on solr
Fixed a solr bug while cleaning up picard bugs
And started with @zas on solr cloud

apart usual stuff, supervision & upgrades, i finally sort out the bowie’s issue
it was a dying fan, causing intermittent cpu overheat, leading to throttlingn, leading to degraded performance
the fan was replaced, and suddenly everything works better
so i improved alerts about cpu temperatures, deploying stuff to collect metrics on all machines
i continued on postgresql stuff, planning to improve redundancy, fast master switching, load balancing
now i’m switching to solr cloud documentation reading, to help samj1912 in this field
the plan is to use hetzner VMs for that
VMs are set up, but solr cloud isn’t yet
once it’ll be working we’ll do intensive testing and performance measurements, goal being production setup at some point

last week I hacked on GDPR stuff. “hacked”. I removed Google Analytics from our privacy policy and submitted a PR and community posts.
I helped @zas/@bitmap with bowie stuff. feebly though.
I dealt with a serious bout of existentialist fretting over not getting the spark cluster running…
a call with Y-Vonne and the Norwegian National library head of IT
the IT guy was really cool. his face lit up when he heard me talk about MB and our philosophies.
and the usual accounting/lawyers/bank bullshit.
the EU money laundering laws are making life difficult for us, that is for sure.
finally, I spent the day in Madrid thursday – I picked up my digital e-residency card at the estonian embassy.
this comes out of the frustrations with doing business in spain – after a number of phone calls and other research…
I think @reosarevok and I could start an actual non-profit in estonia in the space of a week.
and it might only cost us €1000 or so.
we have a board meeting tomorrow that I am preparing for and one of the things to discuss is this banking nonsense and wether or not we should attempt the estonian route.
I’ve got more prep to do for that meeting.
anyways, loads and loads going on for me. sorry if I am behind on reading PRs.

Anyways, I did some GDPR handling PRs this week for LB. Have a PR that can delete an account on LB now.
That code should be movable to other projects as well, so gonna do it for CB, AB etc too.
Talked with @little_rsh about her proposal, and a small discussion with @kartikeyaSh about his project.

I helped with preparing/recovering from downtime when bowie’s biggest fan was terminated
worked on some react stuff, mostly converting the homepage which I just submitted a pr for
and I worked on some new postgres/pgpool/repmgr containers which are kinda working, but I need to test the failover functionality more

I fixed beta MBS, updated it, and finally pushed it to production after two days.
I reviewed some of bitmap’s fine pull requests and addressed some display/WS bugs.
I updated PG sys doc, soon to be obsolete, so I started to read about pgpool2 and barman.

Last week I did some left over work of #257 and #261 AB. I read about replication packets and it’s working which I’m gonna use in my project.
Discussed the project work for first month with @iliekcomputers. For the first week, I would start with adding more entities to the direct connection PR and today I started working on the ‘artist’ one.
Done with the exams last week and came back home yesterday.

I finally caught up with the Monday meeting notes I’ve been behind. So that’s one less thing I’m behind on… until half an hour from now anyway.
I also finally got around to writing up the board meeting minutes from the last board meeting, just in time for the board meeting tomorrow. Next up on my agenda is getting the still-unpublished minutes posted on the blog.
Other than that, I’ve been around and about on IRC and forums, handling the occassional forum flags and keeping an eye on some suspicious IRC activities. (Thanks to christel for giving me a heads up! And thanks to the people in here and in MusicBrainz for just reverting the vandalism without paying it (too) much attention.)

This week I was busy wrapping up my other projects so that they don’t collide with the coding period
I worked on schema changes for import
Will be making a PR today shortly after a discussion with @LordSputnik
That would conclude first major aspect for this week’s job

I played devil’s advocate regarding the GDPR stuff and tried to find ways in which MeB could be violating it.
Then I had to deal with a lovely root SSD failure on one of my servers and learned a valuable lesson about not cheaping out on hardware and talked to zas about monitoring for that kind of stuff.
I also got to fly in an 86 year old plane which was pretty neat but also a good reminder of how comfortable modern jetliners are.

Ok so I didn’t do much coding this week
I worked out the best way to move all our editing logic from the site repo into a more structured set of functions in the data repo
I also think I have a good idea of how to do BB account deletion based on what @bitmap has said on the ticket
I had a weekly meeting with @shivamt yesterday
And he’s ready to do some good work this week
We’re also planning to stop storing birthday and gender (of editors, ed.) in BB, as it’s unnecessary personal information that isn’t relevant to our operation
So no future birthday greeting emails
Then besides that we’ll also update to the MeB privacy policy very soon
Might need to work out a way to use MB emailing to send out an email update to everyone about that

@Freso and @Rob commented a bit on how to approach informing about updating the privacy policy other than sending out a bunch of e-mails, namely suggesting that @LordSputnik makes a forum post like @Rob did and gets @Rob to mention it in the MetaBrainz GDPR update blog post.

Had my last exam today. I had a little talk with iliekcomputers about MessyBrainz, nothing much to tell about the week. Finally, I can get started with the MessyBrainz work from tomorrow.

basically i had been working this in my head for a while and i think its something we need and would benefit mb a great deal
and i’m looking for 2 things from the people in this room

1. feedback/opinions how can we do a program like this in the most efficient and effective manner
2. buy in…i’m hoping to get as many of you on board as possible, ideally most of the people in the room here now would be my original group of pilot mentors

There was a bit of a suggestions, comments, questions, and similar back and forth, but ultimately it was decided to let it “simmer” until next meeting to give people a chance to think about it and discuss it and then it will be brought back up for next meeting.
