Move cover art from one release to another

How can I move cover art from one release to another, when added to the wrong release?

I don’t think there’s any mechanism, at least through the website, to move cover art. If your edit in the wrong place is still open for voting, you can just cancel it, then add the art to the correct release.

If you are asking about cover art that was added previously to a wrong release, but you know which release it should be on you can do it easily by using the MB: Enhanced Cover Art Uploads script. You can find here: GitHub - ROpdebee/mb-userscripts: Collection of userscripts for MusicBrainz

Just copy the URL from the image and paste it to the correct release. Then put in a remove cover art edit on the wrong release. Still will take a while for voting.

If there is a lot of art, you can also download it from the Internet Archive as a zip

This can be a time saver if you have a lot of artwork to move

Wow. I never even noticed this.

It is literally “In the small print” but really useful.

Using this you also realise that deleted artwork is never actually deleted. This package will also include any artwork that has previously been removed.

Now if MB: Enhanced Cover Art Uploads script could parse that link and download and unpack that zip… then you would have a “move artwork” option.
