So I’ve been working on this lately. It’s a plugin for MusicBee that allows you to submit your tags and ratings to MusicBrainz. Some of you may know me for Submit Folksonomy Tags, the plugin for Picard. This is basically the MusicBee version of that.
I made it because as good as Submit Folksonomy Tags was, I use Linux a lot and getting Picard on Linux and MusicBee on WINE to co-operate is… not great. lol. So, I decided to make a plugin where I don’t have to leave MusicBee for the tagging process, which helps because I do like MusicBee’s UI more than Picard’s for this, and I also added ratings submissions on top too. (though I am tracking a weird issue where MusicBee gives me the wrong ratings if you update the ratings in bulk…)
If you’re wondering, yes, I’m coding this on Windows so it’s easier for me to use a Windows app in Linux. Don’t ask.
Features
- Export tags of your choice to MusicBrainz
- Support for recording, release and release groups.
- No support is planned for artist genres on this plugin at this time. Sorry, Aerozol.
- Export album/track ratings to MusicBrainz release groups/recordings.
- Customise what tags you want to submit, and if you want separate tags to be submitted per entity type.
- Defaults to a global tag binding, with genres and moods being submitted for all three, but this can be changed in the settings.
- Hotkey shortcuts for tag/rating submissions
- Import/export data - useful if you have multiple installs (e.g. Windows/Linux dualboot)
Plans
- Implement retrieval of tags/ratings, including separation of genre tags and regular tags, as well as separation of entities (e.g. send release/release group genres to an “album genre” tag)
- Automatic submission on tag edits, if MusicBee and MusicBrainz allows.
- Retrieval of other data from MusicBrainz based on feedback (e.g. artist locations, checking if they are on any Eurovision series, etc.)
