Hello, I got all excited by Symfonium which was mentioned in this thread.
I am using Symfonium to stream my own music from my Dropbox folder and using Panoscrobbler to submit my listens to Listenbrainz.
This is OK as far as it goes, but I would like to be able to get the correct album title, art etc for tracks which appear on many albums. To do this, you need something which submits the release MDIB, right?
For example:
I use Power Amp with this plug in to do this for music saved on my phone and that works perfectly
So, my question is: is there any streaming service that will let you do this? I guess it would also require a plug in…
it looks like it’s not in the scope of Symphonium to add built-in ListenBrainz support, tho I have been wondering about proposing some sort of plugins system to the dev over there…
from the sounds of it, it might be theoretically possible for Pano or ListenBrainz Android to read data from Symphonium (or other apps), it just might require some setup on both sides? I haven’t found one yet (at least for ListenBrainz), but I’ve not been looking too hard yet, and I’m pretty happy with Symphonium × PanoScrobbler for now (and manually linking listens occasionally)
to actually answer the question, I know there are self-hosted solutions like Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby, and I think all three have ListenBrainz plugins/support. they all work with Symphonium too, as you may already know
I’ve briefly tested Jellyfin for music, and it seems to work reasonably well. I didn’t get it set up to stream outside my home network (except for a brief test with a Tailscale VPN, which was a little inconvenient), so I don’t think I can help with that portion. I know it can be done tho (with or without a VPN)
I’ve been using Jellyfin with the LB plugin since March (before that for 8 years I was using Serviio) and it works nicely. I use Cloudflare for listening outside of my local network.
