Login problems

Anyone have an idea why I’ve been having to re-log in to the website multiple times a day?

It’s only on my phone (Vivaldi for Android) and at least affecting beta.musicbrainz.org. I haven’t noticed any problem with staying logged in here on the forum.

I’ll see what other information I can gather but hoped someone else might have encountered this.

I guess it’s not really helpful but no problem here with Android 9 Kiwi Browser, main MBS (not beta).

Hmm. I was last on about 2 pm. Now it’s about 4 pm and it’s asking me to log in again. I’ve been editing on a computer in the meantime.

Ok, it’s just the beta site. If I tell it to stop using beta, I’m logged in on the normal site.

I clicked your beta site link.
I’m still logged in, there, even if last time I went there is more than a few days ago (very much more than your 2 hours)…

Trying to eliminate variables - I logged into the site in Vivaldi and Chrome at the same time, will see if Chrome stays logged in

On my desktop Vivaldi I have it set to default block cookies. To keep my login active for Musicbrainz.org I have to go into the settings \ Privacy and specifically give permission for Musicbrainz.org to allow cookies. Expect you need to allow beta.musicbrainz.org

I looked at Vivaldi on my phone. From a new tab hit Vivaldi \ Settings :gear: scroll a long way to find Web Pages section. Here hit Site Settings. Scroll this to find “Third-party cookies” tap then you can Add site exception for beta.musicbrainz.org / musicbrainz.org to allow those cookies :cookie:.

(Updated to note: That was v6.5 app. Now on v7.0 app “Web Pages” becomes “Content Settings” but the rest is basically same. See images in following post)

Above is based on the logic as to how I get this to work on desktop Vivaldi as I don’t edit on my phone. Have now tested this on my phone and the login survives a full phone restart.

Musicbrainz Security is handled by the Cookie Monster and you need to keep him fed. If he don’t get his cookie he gets upset and makes you login in again.

I can’t for the life of me find that “web pages” section in settings, new tab or not. The third party cookies are under Content Settings > Site Settings, but there’s no per-site options there. If I look at general per-site content settings, all I can do is delete existing cookies.

The only place I can find to add site-specific exceptions is under the tracker & ad blocking.

Okay… so VERSION 7.0 has now rearranged all the menus… making me need to re-write my previous instructions as I still had v6.5 on my phone when I initially replied.

This should make sense for Nov 2024 until they change the interface again :joy:

SCROLL downwards… almost to the bottom…
Content Settings (was Web Page)

And that opens:

Tapping on Site Settings gets you here:

Scroll down to find Third-party Cookies under Content

Add MusicBrainz to the exceptions

You may want to put both musicbrainz.org and beta.musicbrainz.org in there. Not sure as I don’t use the beta.

That is now updated for v7.0 release of Vivaldi. Please ignore timestamps… haha… screen shots are a mix of old a new but now show correctly.

Gotcha, ok. That matches what I have, except I didn’t have Third Party Cookies blocked at all. :person_shrugging:t4: But I adjusted the tracker and ad blocking and also double checked that I had “keep me logged in” selected.

The key thing is now it works for you. :partying_face:Vivaldi is a little bit more sensitive to privacy so adding Musicbrainz.org to various exceptions was likely the solution.

Well, something seems to have worked. Haven’t had any more problems, knock on wood.
