Link recordings in DJed events

Currently, as far as I can tell, there is no way to link to a recording from an event page. All MBIDs are assumed to be for a “work”. Is this correct (and if not, how can I link to a recording)?

If this is correct, linking to the work makes sense for live bands, but less so for DJ shows where you probably want to link to the recording that was used in the mix. Is there a possibility of adding this in the future? I looked around and saw that there were various discussions about adding support for DJ event types, but nothing that I could find about linking tracks.

Thanks for your help!

There is a recording-event relationship for “recorded at” - is this what you need? Relationship type / Recorded at - MusicBrainz

Here’s an example of an existing MB event: OffKai Live 2023 - MusicBrainz

welcome to the community, @SamWhited ~

I don’t believe there is a way to connect a recording to an event in this way. I think maybe it’s been talked about before tho, in that sometimes live performers play prerecorded audio during costume changes and such, like here

I’m not where I can search for a ticket at the moment, but you might see if you can find a ticket on Jira (or otherwise create a ticket)

I feel like this is kinda the opposite of that relationship actually, since the recordings are “performed” by the DJ (tho that would work for a recording of a DJ-type set)

To be clear, I’m trying to make a link in an event description, not add a relationship on a resource.

Understood, thank you! I don’t use Jira specifically, but I’ll keep an eye out for changes in case someone works on it one day; sounds like it’s not possible now but already on someones radar which is good enough for me. Thank you!

I took a look and didn’t happen to find any tickets, so I went ahead and created one:

do you have an example of a DJed event you’d like to add as an example?

This is easy enough to implement with the current text-based setlist structure - although one thing I do worry about is how we would do things if we moved towards having a proper “setlist editor”. I guess we could have an option to have a work-based setlist or a recording-based one, but mixing them in the same event might be complicated

Oops, sorry, I wasn’t getting notifications for this thread for some reason.

As an example, here is the set list I made for one of my own events:

I did figure out a way to add the individual recordings by making a new recording for the mixed work as recordings have a “DJ mix of” relationship (or whatever it’s called). That said, this only works if recordings were actually made, for events that aren’t recorded it would still be nice to link it in the set list.
