Improving Japanese live event coverage on MusicBrainz

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on adding live music events for Japanese artists to MusicBrainz, and I’ve noticed that the event pages for many of the artists I regularly edit have little or no information, even when historical event information is available elsewhere.

One useful resource I’ve found is LiveFans, a Japanese live music database that contains information about concerts and other live events, including past events.

I’ve been using LiveFans as a reference to add missing events to MusicBrainz. My goal is to gradually build a more complete history of live events for the Japanese artists I follow, from their early careers to the present.

To make the work more manageable, I’ve also been developing small helper tools to streamline parts of the event creation process on MusicBrainz. I’d like to share these tools and my workflow with other contributors who may be interested in working on Japanese event data.

However, there are many artists and events to cover, and it’s difficult for one person to make a significant difference alone. I’d love to see more contributors taking an interest in Japanese live event data.

I’d be happy to exchange ideas about finding event information, creating event records, and improving the tools and workflow. If you’re interested in contributing, or have suggestions for making this process easier for others, I’d love to hear from you.

Even small contributions can help build a more complete record of Japanese live music.

Thanks for reading!

Excellent!

I add quite a lot of events, but I have trouble keeping up with (in terms of the time I have to edit) just the events that I am interested in or have attended. There’s two JP ones in there, at least :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Anyway, it would be excellent to get some more event coverage on MB - keep us updated on your progress!

I’ve added a script to GitHub.
This script imports event information from Livefans.jp. The “LiveFans-to-MusicBrainz-Event-Importer” imports the “Event Name,” “Date,” and “Time.” By using it in conjunction with the “LiveFans-to-MusicBrainz-Relationship-Helper,” you can also import the ‘Venue’ and “Main Performer.”
