Importing from Discogs / Linking to Existing Recordings

Hi, I’ve been using the userscript:

Works great — except when the release has a different track configuration than the original, then there doesn’t seem to be a way to link to the recordings.

For example, these Vinyl releases are double albums (2 disc) instead of the original single (1 disc).

https://www.discogs.com/release/7860700-The-Black-Crowes-The-Southern-Harmony-And-Musical-Companion

I’ve tried:

  1. In the ‘release duplicates’ tab in the workflow, selecting Do not use any of the above releases as a starting point. This creates the right configuration (because the information was passed through by the userscript), but none of the recordings are carried over (and someone else has had to merge my ‘new’ recordings to the correct original ones; embarrassing.)

  2. In the ‘release duplicates’ tab, selecting one of the Single-disc vinyl releases and using the Track Parser to cut and paste the “second half” of the album into a new Disc 2. This creates the right configuration also (because I did it manually), but it results in Disc 1 having the right recordings, but Disc 2 having no recordings. This isn’t better than method #1.

What am I missing – what’s the best way in the workflow to link to existing recordings, when a new release has a slightly different configuration?

Instead of creating Disc2 with the track parser, create disc 2 by “add medium” on the track list page and add the Single Disc again. (Search for that same number of tracks)

Now you are looking at two Medium, both with the same track list.

Now delete tracks from the two track lists. That usually keeps the recordings in place

OR, a method I often use is in the Recordings window try the search and when that fails copy\paste recordings one by one from a separate window.
