The Internet Archive DDOS happened a while ago. Is there an estimate of when cover art will be able to be added to releases?
The place for the latest news:
You can add cover art now if you use the beta site at https://beta.musicbrainz.org, which still updates the production database. From what I understand, I believe that you’ll be able to add it using the main site within the next week or so.
wondering why the beta site allows artwork updates to the database, but the production site doesn’t. What’s the difference? Don’t they both go to the Internet Archive / CAA? Is it perceived that the volume will be lower if only the beta site is live?
My understanding is that the MusicBrainz team wanted to make sure that the IA was stable in allowing the uploads before (re-)opening the functionality on the main site. Thus the week or so of testing to ensure the stability.
it could partly be the lower volume, but I believe there’s a new system in place to allow turning off CAA submissions at will in case this happens again (tho I hope that’s a button we don’t ever have to use)
Changes generally go live on the beta site first, before they get deployed to the production site later. That’s the purpose of the beta site, testing changes on a smaller scope first.
I didn’t understand that there were code changes. Testing on the beta server makes sense.
