Hey, I would like to add the data for the Soundtrack of the video game Star Wars: The Old Republic. There is already the following entry for the soundtrack at the release of the game. But over the years there have been continuous additions and since 2020 everything is being compiled in this YT Playlist. What would be the best way of adding that ? Thanks!
I’d add a new release corresponding to the YouTube playlist within the existing release group. I think that https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLiJsK_sFeeKygEepqlUoXIBwcyeGfXrXx is the correct URL to use in a “stream for free” relationship. The existing recordings should be used when appropriate (i.e. when the songs from both sources sound the same and are the same duration).
If songs are still being added to the playlist, I don’t think that there’s clear official guidance about how that should be handled. There was some discussion last year:
Personally, I’d probably just update the release corresponding to the YT playlist to reflect the new tracks and consider documenting the additions in the annotation. Other editors prefer adding a new longer release whenever tracks get added, but that feels like it could get messy if new tracks are added every month.
Thanks! Will do that then, also create this soundtrack work.
I don’t think there is much anything in the docs about living/dynamic releases ? Could be mistaken tho.
And I’d rather not add a new release every time, creates noise for no real benefit
Unfortunately adding a new release every time is the only “correct” way to do it. For instance, a track released this year should not be on a release that was released last year…
I recommend just updating living releases when there is a major update or you need to tag something. That said, it doesn’t take that much effort to clone releases, and it’s actually quite interesting to be able to see the history of a release in a MusicBrainz release group.
Okay, I’ll go with that then, just updated the release to the most recent additions. (i.e. Aug 16, 2024).
Will add the previous iterations once I get to it.
ps:
Thanks for the corrections!
Playlists should not be added to MB as releases.
as has been discussed previously, they can sometimes be added as releases, and I think this is one of those cases. it’s from the official Star Wars The Old Republic YouTube channel, and while it has gotten a couple updates, that’s no different than a regular digital release
