How to classify youtaite Chorus Battle event

I’ve been importing some songs that were part of Deredere Chorus Battle (x.com), an online competition in the youtaite community. In the process I’ve been reading about Chorus Battles (Chorus Battles | Youtaite Wiki | Fandom , https://www.chorusbattlecentral.xyz/) to figure out if/how they can be added to musicbrainz.
The gist is that musicians organized into several groups, and each group released multiple songs over a series of rounds as part of the Chorus Battle, with each round being judged and some groups being eliminated in each round.

It seems most natural to me to create the Deredere Chorus Battle as an event series, with each round being an Event (Competition), and each individual release being linked to the event for that round. However, the description of Competition type seems to imply live competition; and the only relationships available at the release level are for (1) releases available only at that event, (2) launch event for the release, and (3) recording location for the release; of which only (2) seems plausible to me.

There are two existing events in MB with “Chorus Battle” in their title, but they are both listed as (Festival) and use the “recording location for” relationship (at the recording level).

The release I imported that started this investigation: Release “Flatline” by ♡BEAT - MusicBrainz
and its corresponding youtube release with 【DDCB-R0】 in the title: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlGuRdOa_wE

There is a music performance or are they just playing pre-recorded music?
The latter would not make it an MB event, IMO.

I don’t have access to x.com.

welcome to the forums, Vasher~

this sounds a bit similar to something I’ve somewhat recently added (tho in a tournament format, instead of a repeating one-off challenge). I’ve added it as a series of series (and recording series, since it’s a songwriting and remix challenge)

basically, every week, someone came up with a theme, then several musicians would create a song (original or a remix) based on that theme within the week. at the end of the week, the community members would listen to all the tracks and vote on their favorites (no prizes for winners tho)

depending on the exact format, a chorus battle could be entered in a similar fashion? you could do subseries for each round of the chorus battle too, so something like deredere² chorus battle: Round 1 or something?

if the release is the important part, you could do a release series, but my gut says it’s a recording series (tho you probably have a better feel on that than I, since you’re more familar with this)

I don’t know that this would really be an “event” in MusicBrainz terms, since in general that’s used for places where people get together (either physically or digitally, like the concerts in the video game Fortnite)

also, I’m inviting the editor that added those two chorus battle events, tho they haven’t been editing in almost a year, so I don’t know if they’ll join

That makes sense (a series of recordings), since it is, I believe, a specific recording that’s being submitted (some are cover recordings and some are original compositions). I just initially gravitated to Event because I saw the ‘Competition’ subtype existed; and I don’t think the participants got together in that way, just the recordings were submitted asynchronously.

I think most likely it would be the video recording being submitted (since I believe visual artists/video editors are part of the teams), as I’m pretty sure they all have youtube video recordings - maybe the group I already added was unusual for having an audio release on streaming platforms.
