I have ripped the CD album “Menuhin & Grappelli Play Berlin, Kern, Porter & Rodgers & Hart” and tagged the audio files from MusicBrainz (release link) done via the beets tagger.
The audio file metadata show that this album is categorised as ‘Compilation’. How is this ‘Compilation’ flag represented on MusicBrainz’ release page? I know about MusicBrainz’ definition of ‘Compilation’ as Secondary type, but where is this visible on the release page?
Also, are there different ‘varieties’ of compilations possible? (E.g. an compilation of artist or a compilation of different composers?)
Thanks in advance for any clarification.

Usually you can see it here on the right side of the release:
You can set the secondary type “Compilation” on the release group here:

On MusicBrainz there is a compilation secondary release type on the release group level. If set, it is shown in the right pane where there is “Type”. A compilation generally consists of previously released recordings from different albums, see Release Group / Type - MusicBrainz . The release you linked is not a compilation. The release you linked is not a compilation. Both beets and Picard write all the release types to the file as a special tag, see Appendix B: Tag Mapping — MusicBrainz Picard v2.13.3 documentation
In the files there is also a specific “compilation” tag, which is used to mark various artists compilations. I think this is what you are referring to. It is used by some music players to handle the display of various artists albums properly. This is by default set by both beets and Picard if the album artist on MB is Various Artists.
As your release also is not a Various Artists compilations I can’t say why beets set this flag. I don’t use beets, but it is a highly configurable software. Check your beets configuration.
