I add covers to MB, and many artists just use existing instrumental recordings of someone else instead of writing a new one. For instance: Avlönskt. Bad Apple (Multilanguage cover) uses 【Touhou】 -Bad Apple- (Orchestral Arrangement) Instrumental by Cloudjumper. Because it uses the specific recording I believe it should be credited with recording-recording relationship. But I don’t know which one should be used in cases like this one.
I’m sure that these options I can ignore: a cappella, karaoke, edit, music video, remaster, first track release, compilation, DJ-mix, mashes up, commentary.
Here are the remaining options: samples material, instrumental, remix.
- samples material - I don’t think that’s what I need because the cover uses the full recording and not just some samples.
- instumental - “This is used to link an instrumental version of a song to the original song.”, As far as I understand it based on the description, it’s another type and direction. If I have a song and an instrumental recording of it, this one can be used, but not vice verse (at the beginning was an instrumental version that in the future will be used in someone’s vocal version).
- remix - I’m not really understand the term “remix”, that is accepted on MusicBrainz (because video game arrangements and remixes like that are not remixes on MusicBrainz). So I’m not sure if it is what I need.
If anything is inappropriate, how can I request a new type of relationship?
