To be fair, it is more likely that many editors look at a 32 page booklet and decide to just scan a couple of pages with credits on them. Not “lack of training”, more “availability of time”.

Yes, I should have included “availability of time”. That is certainly my biggest constraint when I contribute to MusicBrainz.

But also, part of what @ijabz has been talking about is PDF files that publishers supply as part of digital releases. In that case, availability of time is not an issue. But also in that case, “scans” is not the right verb to use.
