Hi there,
I’m working on a private development project in which I want to use metadata from MusicBrainz. While working on my initial dataset, I realized that the song “Guantanamera” is from 1929 according to Wikipedia and some other sources. In MusicBrainz, there is a recording from 1940 only. So is there a way to add metadata for the origins of the song or is that not supposed to be part of the database, if there is no recording of it?
If you know a performance date, you can probably create a dated event and link the work to it.
Here is the link to the work you mentionned:
There are different things that can be meant by “the song is from” a certain time. If you mean the writing of the song, you can add this date at the composer (or lyricist) relationship. E.g., composed by Julián Orbón on a certain date. If you mean the date of the earliest recording, you can add the earliest recording you have evidence of.
But, from I read on Wikipedia, it seems it’s not clear who wrote this song or when.
Interesting discussion on secondhandsongs https://secondhandsongs.com/topic/47849
So thanks to this last link, we see that only the music could be from before the first release.
As, on the radio show, lyrics would change everyday, it was not always the same MB work.
Thank you for the quick replies!
It seems that the topic isn’t as easy as I hoped it is, especially after reading the discussion on secondhandsongs (thanks for the link!). I’ll check if I can add some information from there to MB.
