Tried drag-dropping. Adding folder. Adding files. Nothing.

I can see “Adding directory [filepath]” and estimated is stuck on X seconds but “Unclustered files” and “Clusters” are empty.

2.9 is buggy as hell.

So the same folder loads in 2.8.5? That’s rather odd, I don’t think there was a change in how files are loaded.

What kind of folder is that? How many files are in there? Is it a local folder or on a network or external drive? Depending on the number of files to scan it can take a while to read the files.

Please start Picard with the --debug parameter or enable debug mode in Help > View Error/Debug Log and then restart Picard.

Add that folder and share the full output from the debug log here.

It shows quite some files it should load. But there are no files at all shown inside Picard? What does the file count in the status bar on the lower right the main window say? Is it 0 or larger?

First, I try with an album. Then with a boxset. And finally I try to add a single song. And nothing happens.

Thanks for this. It is somehow stuck on actually reading those files. It shows the files as pending, the next thing to happen is that Picard actually opens each file for reading and tries to read the tags. That should either work or give an error. But in your case it seems to be just stuck on reading. Not exactly sure what the actual cause is.

Does it work when you open files located on a location other then /media/fede ? Can you play and access the files you tried to open normally with other tools?

What kind of drive is /media/fede?

@Zas do you have an idea what’s happening here?

@ElPirata can you copy files from this very same folder to another one on another disk using your file browser?

I have no idea about what’s happening here but it makes me think about a buggy communication with the source drive.

The files play fine. no problem interacting with them. They are located in a different partition. NTFS format.

I tried with a folder on my Linux system (Linux Lite) partition and still nothing: Streamable Video

After the end of the video all the lines at the bottom disappear. Error log is empty.

Could it be perhaps one file that is causing the lockup? What happens if you work in batches, like dragging about 5 tracks into the upper half of Picard’s window?

Same problem, I just have a flac file in /tmp (tmpfs) and I did an “add file” and nothing appears.
In “options/File Naming” I have:

“Before: /tmp/splittrack02.flac”
“After: /tmp/- -/00.flac”

I don’t have any plugins.

I downgraded to 2.8.3, and I didn’t have any problems with this version, after tagger.add_files, there was “formats/vorbis._load” and the rest.

Can those of you affected by this report back what number of CPU cores their systems have? I’m highly confident that this happens on systems for which the default Picard thread pool ends up to allow only one thread, which gets occupied by the listener for the new single instance mode.

I’ll provide a fix for this shortly.
