Fixing my mistake

How do I fix my mistake of failing to enter disc numbers to a release

Do you mean that you entered all tracks as part of a single medium when you meant to use multiple? Please link to the release.

Thank you very much for replying derat. That is exactly what I’ve done. I entered the complete timings as tracks instead of entering disc numbers I think. My sincere apologies to everyone…

Here is something you can try:

  • Edit your release
  • Goto tracklist
  • Add a new medium - you get a popup with 3 options.
  • Choose ā€œfrom existing mediumā€ and press Search. You’ll get a long list.
  • Find the long one you made, it’s down a bit, and select add.
  • Do that until you have the right number of discs.
  • Then delete all the extra tracks (little red circles at far right of each track).

That said, looking at the release in Discogs I don’t think that their data is good either. They (and your tracklist) seem to have one track per each work, but I would be quite surprised if the real tracklists didn’t have one track for each movement. Do you have the actual CDs? This seems like the kind of case where slowly adding the data from the actual CDs, even if one or two CDs at a time, is the right way to go.

Thanks very much for the advice everybody, my mistake was failing to add media of the 25 discs so I had "one track per each workā€ when I should’ve had those as titles for each CD which is in its own sleeve inside the box. When I have finished to have it all correct. The data on the CD is minimal and I’m struggling to find the original releases, which were on vinyl starting about 1970. Thank you very much for all the help and encouragement.

I am busy fixing that manually. I do have all the CDs

I did exactly as you kindly suggested, and I’ve made all the media renamed each of the 25. I am hoping that this is correct.? Maybe I should have labelled each desk as a subtitle? But I suppose that may be a thing for tagging. Thanks again.

The ā€œStephen Kovacevich – The Complete Philips Recordingsā€ box set consists of 25 CDs that are a 2015 Decca Classics ā€œCompilationā€ by Raymond McGill, ā€œProject Managementā€ by Edward Weston, and ā€œMastering" by The Audio Archiving Company, with research assistance from Jonathan Summers of the British Library. [This information from the enclosed booklet.]

The result is 25 CDs each on its own cardboard sleeve with artwork of the release. The type of packaging needed would appear to be ā€œLlinerā€ how about "Sleeveā€ as a category?

The sources for this compilation were 12ā€ vinyl releases of analog recordings made from February 1968 with the only digital releases being nos 14 and (recorded in 1983) and no. 17 (recorded in 1981) marked DDD.

My question is: can one attach the original ā€œfrontā€ artwork to each one of the 25 media instead of the 2015 remaster artwork called ā€œfrontā€ in the compilation below?

For example CD 02 in the above compilation has the following ā€œfrontā€ coverart taken from the original 12ā€ vinyl release showing that it was issued in German:

I wonder if it is possible the link this artwork with the later remastered CD in the compilation? My apologies for this very lengthy dissertation.

No, sorry. You can set Picard to choose the ā€˜release group’ artwork (which is very helpful when you don’t want to have weird reissue art, etc), but that doesn’t help when releases aren’t in the same release group. That would be much more complicated to implement - it’s hard to guess what exactly the user wants as the front cover in that case.

You’ll have to manually set the occasional cover, sorry!

Just to clarify, you can do this in Picard by selecting the appropriate track in the album pane, and then drop the new cover image to replace the one displayed. I’m pretty sure that this will just make the change in the selected file (but I recommend trying it out on a copy in case I’m not remembering correctly).

Thanks very much for your replies. I think I’ve worked out that I save each individual album as a 12 inch vinyl with original artwork, and I’ve set up a relationship to show that it was remastered in the compilation of 2015. That way the artwork is fine for me. I understand that the 12 inch vinyl was the first release, so it gets the cover art, so there’s no need to add it to the compilation.
