Duplicate file in digital download - should it be listed?

have a look at this release.

this album was first released in 2017. after the band signed a deal with Napalm Records in 2020 they rereleased the album with an additional track “The Magician”, previously available as a single. apparently the download on bandcamp do have a duplicate file of the 12th track with a different embedded cover. according to the bandcamp track listing itself though the album is supposed to have 12 tracks and not 13.

so I’m wondering if we should even list the duplicate file in the track listing? because otherwise we could just merge this release with this one. which features the same barcode and label.

for me this is more of a quirk of the file package by bandcamp rather than a relevant difference between releases. is there something in the guidelines applicable to this scenario?

Personally I would keep such a bonus track, therefore: I would keep the Bandcamp version in case someone would like to keep the extra file as part of this release.

Of course, for file tagging, you could also tag the file with information from the single and keep it in the same folder.

here is my edit for this, in preparation for a release merge.

I don’t think we should reflect this kind of information in the track listing. just like we don’t include silent HTOA.

That’s not the same. Silent pregaps were a technical measure to ensure compatibility with players. Of course, that doesn’t belong in the track listing.

Here we have a different file with original artwork. But if you really want to get rid of the release, that’s fine with me too. It is not really necessary. (and I would probably tag it as single, because that’s what it is - the single as a bonus  )
