Documenting track split error

I’m trying to clean up the recordings for the official releases of Release group “The Witches of Eastwick” by John Williams - MusicBrainz and noticed there’s an error in some early pressings of the 2012 release where track 5 ended up including the first 50 seconds of track 6 - this was later fixed to match the 1987 and 2006 releases (and the streaming release, apparently based on the 1987 master). To make matters worse, the back cover of the 2006 release listed the wrong length for track 5 (3:55 instead of 2:54) and this has been spread across Discogs etc.

  1. Should I add a separate release for the flawed pressing? Its TOC is currently attached to the release.
  2. Should the too-long track 5 and too-short track 6 have their own recordings, or be merged with the correct recordings? The actual audio content is the same, just split differently.

No fix, but another release with same error:

I put it in annotation there, track lengths was previously edited in Edit #94888693 - MusicBrainz .

When errors are that long then yes these usually lead to separate recordings. And as they are separate recordings, then I’d say yes to separate releases.

Plenty of details in the annotations of recordings and release would be good.

Yes and yes, separate releases and recordings.

And, as Ivan said, annotations for releases, recordings and release group.

And disambiguation comments on releases and recordings.
