Do we add poster expo's as an event?

so there is this artist (Malleus) who creates awesome posters (mainly for stonerrock bands/gigs) and he has created a bunch of event posters for an organisation in belgium that mostly organises stonerrock gigs.

and every once in a while they will organise a poster expo.

do we add these poster expo’s as an event (even when there is no bands playing at that event?)

That’s an interesting one… I don’t know if we’ve ever discussed whether music-based events should be added, even if no musicians are playing.

I lean towards yes (because why not? assuming the DB wont explode with non-music events). Particularly if you can find the appropriate relationship to use to connect the artist to the event.

So where doe the event line end up if you head into artwork exhibitions with musical connections?

I’m not saying that this confirms that we should be able to add events about music, since these sentences are probably meant in the context of music releases, but I do like to think that these parts in “about MusicBrainz” represent the overall aim of the project:

“MusicBrainz is a community-maintained open source encyclopedia of music information.”

“As an encyclopedia and as a community, MusicBrainz exists only to collect as much information about music as we can. We do not discriminate or prefer one “type” of music over another, and we try to collect information about as many different types of music as possible. Whether it is published or unpublished, popular or fringe, western or non-western, human or non-human — we want it all in MusicBrainz.”

Personally I think it would be part of our “everything music database” mission to add events like the Pink Floyd example and the album artist exhibition. I haven’t checked if there’s a way to link them to the artists though.

can i create an artist that just makes rock posters
and then link the artist to the event as a graphic designer?

and then when i create an art expo event, can i the link the same artist as a graphic designer for the expo?

(btw, the artist i’m talking about is Malleus – Rock Art Lab)

We have art relationships for events now for stuff like posters, so while I dunno about the poster expo, you can certainly add the artist and link it to the concerts.
