Aren’t DAD discs categorized as DVD-Audio?
I’m trying to enter a rather early DAD release from before 2000 and the system won’t allow me because ”This medium is set to a format that did not exist on the selected release date.”

Hmm. DVD-Audio as a format is claimed to have had its first discs in 2000 as per Wikipedia - but I have no idea what a DAD disc is and searching for it only gives me the best disc golf discs for starting dads
Do you have any more info to share?
Perhaps these reissues https://www.discogs.com/label/670081-DAD-2496
Apparently, contrary to HDAD, it appeared before DVD-Audio and so DAD are played in DVD-Video players.
So, they are DVD-Video.
Very well written article, answered a number of questions I have had working with digitizing vinyl at higher sampling rates. thanks
I always though DAD was just early nomenclature for DVD-Audio, but after researching it further now, I realise that’s not the case.
It is basically DVD-Video (sans video) delivering 24/96 LPCM. There could be a special category for the handful of them in circulation or just leave them in DVD-Video I suppose.
DVD-Video for now makes sense, it sounds like the kind of thing we should eventually support but maybe (if they are rare enough) as some sort of attribute for the format once that is possible?
So it’s just a DVD-Video.
From @yindesu article:
Maybe you’d like to argue that a cassette recorded with Dolby S is a completely new format because I release a few tapes that way, let’s call it… S-Tape.
Like old mp3.com DAM CD were Enhanced CD with MP3 files in the data session.
But still we do have these, which don’t require different hardware spec either:
Not only does SHM-CD require no other hardware, it’s essentially a regular CD made of a different plastic. Nevertheless, it might be interesting to know which albums were released with SHM-CDs.
DAD should also be available.
EDIT: Actually, DAD should be available and, in general, things like SHM-CD should not! What if it would have been successful? We would now have SHM-SACD, SHM-DVD, SHM-Blu-ray, …
