Credit for painting used as cover art

I’m trying to figure out how to credit the painter of a painting that was used as cover art.

I found this conversation, where the suggestion was made that it should go in a (now deprecated) “design/Illustration” relationship.

That made sense to me, until I read the description of the “illustration” relationship, which says “… an artist who did illustration for the release.” Does that mean art that was specifically created to be part of the release? This would not apply to an existing painting that was later used for the release. Is that the intent of the relationship?

I’ve already added a few illustration relationships for reused images. Sometimes with an annotation linking to the source(s).

If you can identify the artist, why not? Otherwise the guidelines need to be clearer.

I’ve also used this relationship for art used in this way, so I personally see no issue with this

that said, I wouldn’t be opposed to a new relationship (or relationship attribute) for art not made specifically for said release, but I could see it getting a bit unclear whether to use it in some situations

All right, thanks, @chaban and @UltimateRiff .

The release booklet identifies the painter as “J. F. Joyce,” but I can’t find a whiff about that person on the web, at least not that identifies them as a painter.

I’ve added a very sparse Artist record, and annotated the cover art credit in Annotation.

In case you’re wondering, I’d like, just once, to be able to set the Data Quality on a release to “High.” That’s what I’m pursuing here.
