Can anybody find more concrete info on this guy?

I’m working on this release, which has credits for an engineer identified as Stefan Nordin on Track 5 and Stephan Nordin on Track 9. Discogs has credited them as the same person, which seems like a no brainer to me.

However, it’s not just this release. See all these profiles for the different names (some of which built on each other, I’m sure):

Stefan Nordin @ MusicBrainz
Stephan Nordin @ MusicBrainz

Stefan Nordin @ Discogs
Stephan Nordin @ Discogs

Stefan Nordin @ AllMusic
Stephan Nordin @ AllMusic

IMDB at least has a single profile, Stefan Nordin only

The vast majority of credits in all cases are for engineering or similar technical roles, but there are a handful of composer credits. I’m still 99% convinced it’s all the same person, but I haven’t found anything quite concrete enough to make me confident of a merge.

Also, merge which way? Discogs has more specific uses of Stephan, but the overall number of releases on each profile is similar. I’d sure like to find clear documentation of who this is before taking any action on it.

I don’t think that’s the same person. He would have worked on (new) releases from 1965 to 2022 (Discogs). That’s quite unlikely.
I would rather assume that two different technicians are already a little mixed up.

Update:
On Discogs Stefan Nordin was a Swedish producer (mainly) and engineer, mostly 1970s, some later credits.
Stephan Nordin is a much younger engineer.

I think on MB they can be merged. (with the link to the Swedish producer removed).
Or you add some Stefan Nordin credits to existing releases on MB and change the current links to the younger engineer.

Yeah, I see what you mean. There do seem to be two distinct people on Discogs, with a little overlap. I’m still not sure if “Stephan” or “Stefan” is correct for the more recent one, given that IMDB only has Stefan. But it might be convenient to keep Stephan for now to distinguish them.

In the end, I’ve added disambigs and fixed the one credit I assigned to the wrong person. Every time I start to dig in anywhere else, I lose my confidence again.
