"bullet mic", new instrument type or not?

Should “bullet mic” be new instrument typ or not ?

Bruce Springsteen played on his Devils & Dust Solo and Acoustic Tour - MusicBrainz usually a couple of songs with what it’s referred to “bullet mic”. The microphone distorts the voice in a certain way.

How can I put this in an instruments relationship the best way … or do we need a new instrument type ?

I know gear has been talked about a few times, but as far as I know, there’s been no actual work on this

(gear being non-instrument equipment, like mics, amps, and such)

in other words, I don’t believe a specific mic would be an instrument

I’d use the instrument “Effects” and write in “Bullet Mic” Just the instrument being effected is the voice.

I didn’t hear it but I guess he just sings as usual and the “bullet mic” is just like a chain of preset effects.
It’s still lead vocals relationship.

Or maybe you can use the Credited as field:

Here it would be normal vocals and bullet mic vocals, usually it’s not the whole song sung with effects. Just an example…

But the VOCAL isn’t a bullet mic. His voice is a normal vocal, it is an effect applied after he has sung. He is singing into an Instrument that changes his voice.

I go with that one … thx everybody for the input

But what artist are you going to link?
I don’t think it is Bruce Springsteen.
He is not playing with the knobs and switches during his singing, is he?

To me it just sounds like the guitarist used this or that amp with this or that settings.
Settings are preset, they are not played with during the performance, except for some guitar pedals.

I searched for bullet mic Springsteen and it is just some settings, he is not playing the bullet mic, he is just singing lead vocals.

There is no instrument performance, IMO.

Maybe @reosarevok (style guru) you have an idea whether we should track this “bullet mic” info and how?

I don’t. How would rock people track pedals? I expect it would be a similar thing, but I haven’t ever entered anything like that so I wouldn’t know.

i don’t think a bullet mic needs to be added as an instrument.

it’s like adding all the gear a guitarist uses, from each pedal to the length of the cable. it all contributes to the sound but isn’t all specified, we only say he played the guitar (or electric guitar).

i think it would be interresting if we would know what gear all artist use BUT the only way of actually knowing this is if the artist itself would share it. but they often have so much gear that it again would be unmanagable
